Terrain - Snowboardcross
SNOWBOARDCROSS (SBX)
Snowboard Cross was derived from a mix of extreme sports including Motorcross and alpine snowboarding. Mixing racing with many terrain features, imitating nature’s curves and valleys and adding in some of the following terrain features:
Banks/burns (crescent shaped); Double Banks; Jumps Rollers (single, double, triple, etc.); Offset Rollers - (single, double, triple, etc.); Step-up jumps; Spines; Pro style jumps; Hip jumps; Table top jumps, and medium or long GS type turns.
Competitions start with a qualifying timed lap, where athletes race individually to make qualification to the heat stages. Through a process of knockout heats, the best racers go through to the semis and then the finals. On a snow course, 4 – 6 people race at the same time. The object of SBX is to make it through the finish line first by choosing the quickest line down the course and preventing other competitors from getting past you. There is no deliberate force allowed towards another competitor, however, this is a demanding and aggressive sport so wear protection!
