Snow Factor in Braehead, was the third and final indoor slope to be built by Xscape and was part of a £500m project to redevelop the 200 acre site near Glasgow. The complex has since been taken over and rebranded Soar at Braehead, and is situated just off the M8 at jct 26.
The indoor real snow slope is 170 metres long by 40m wide with a dedicated 50m beginners’ slope facing opposite. 16 snow guns create over 1500 tonnes of real snow refrigerated at minus 2-3°C.
As with all indoor slopes, freestyle provisions are vitally important and Snow Factor hold Freestyle Nights on Thursdays and Fridays with a selection of boxes, rails and snow features for a range of abilities – they often get very creative with their snow sculpting. If you’re just starting out, then you can hire all of your equipment at the slope and book either group or private lessons to get to grips with the basics.
It is arguably the most themed of all the UK indoor slope complexes boasting a Bavarian beer hall and a sub-zero ice-bar imaginatively named Bar Varia and the Baltic Ice Bar where you can respectively spectate from a vast slope-side balcony leading directly to the snow or enjoy(?) a drink at -5°C! There are also plenty of places to eat including Nandos, Pizza Hut, TGI Fridays, Frankie & Benny's, Chiquitos, Ma Potters and Tootsies.
The complex is massive, with a Snowboard Asylum, Evans Cycles and a number of other shops and heaps of other entertainment including an Odean Cinema, Bowlplex, Adventure Golf, Lazer Station, XD Experience theme-park rides, and the UK's largest free standing climbing wall.
