Burton Blowout review from Tamworth SnowDome
Posted Tuesday 23rd February 2010, 11:50 am by Dunx

Saturday 20th February saw a new event hit the SnowDome. The Burton Blow Out was a result of the gap left in the UK’s winter competition schedule during the New Year. With many riders travelling off to more exotic locations over these months Burton Snowboards thought it would be nice to host an event for the “real people” who slug their guts out all winter and who may not get a chance to head out to a resort.

The event was also an opportunity for the riders to try their luck on the Burton Staircase Rails that will now reside at the SnowDome and will be a regular feature on their freestyle nights. The down - flat - down and the down bar (from previous Scrap Metal events) are one of the best-loved obstacles in the UK as well as being one of the burliest!

The format was a lighthearted jam with prizes awarded for everything from stand out tricks to the knarliest slams! Some decent swag was on offer as well with goodies from Burton, Analog, Gravis, Anon and RED Protection and most people went away clutching something for their efforts.

During the half-time break the new “B Movie” from Burton Snowboards was premièred in the newly refurbished bar upstairs, which went down well with the riders who congregated in the bar waiting for the slope to be re-groomed.

Stand out performances on the night had to be from the two Oughton brothers, Dan and Jack.

These two locals have been riding at Tamworth religiously for years and the practice is now paying off. They threw down a host of tricks on the two rails and gas-pipe and bagged themselves some goodies in the process.

SnowDome instructor and general nice guy Luke Lightwood was killing it and managed to land a BS180, Switch 50/50, Cab 180 off onto the down bar and young Jake Perks stepped it up and was owning the stair-set.

A big thanks has to go out to the crew at Tamworth and stay tuned for future Burton events at the SnowDome.

Santa Cruz Rookie Rider Clash at Tamworth next Saturday

More prizes, more obstacles and more chances - who will be crowned the Santa Cruz Rookie Rider Clash winners this year?

Our chums at Tamworth Snowdome came up with a screaming set of obstacles last season including a rainbow rail, kickers, wall ride and quarter pipe - hit as many or as little as you like in the one hour snowboard jam but ride with style to impress our judges who will pick out the finalists.

Results from Who's The Daddy 2009
Posted Friday 20th November 2009, 1:25 pm by Dunx

Chris Kightley
Who's The Daddy returned for its 5th anniversary at the SnowDome on Saturday 7th November.

Heroic contenders piled through reception, preparing for the battle that lay before them.

Kicking off the comp with Tim Sandy on the mic was the warm up session,a great opportunity to "eye-up" a partner - ready for this years Double Daddy jam comp.

Double Daddy

The aim of the game - create a "skier & boarder" combo, hit the best line, style it up for the judges and the best team wins. There was some gallant attempts but out on top had to be the duo doing back flips off the barrel jib - a deserved1st prize went to Gareth Andrews and Andrew Longley. A very close 2nd to Thomas James & Charlie Smith plus some amazing lines from the all girl team, Sissy Herrant & Natalie Silkstone.

Quarterpipe Showdown

The scene was set, skis and snowboards were waxed and what followed can only be described as the most momentous quarterpipe battle ever seen on UK soil!

Following an exciting qualifying session, 10 riders were selected for the grand finale

Skiers can be Daddies too!

Skiers

Chris Benner (defending his Who' The Daddy 2008 title)
Charlie Smith
Josh Herrant (junior)
Sissy Hearrnt (junior)
Josh Jenkins

Snowboarders

Ben Izzard
Ross Needham
Chris Kightley
Rob Lawton
Alex Wayne

Ben Izzard's winning run
Previously, only one snowboarder has taken the Who's The Daddy title and that was Dale Taylor back in 2007 so the pressure was on the snowboarders to claim back the crown. With the skiers killing it, the pressure mounted! The snowboarders certainly didn't hold back and there were some massive attempts from all the participants. However, the winner was clear after 2 attempts per rider and the Who's The Daddy crown went to Ben Izzard after he easily cleared the top of the tombstone, over 21 feet in the air!

Joint second with a huge 20.5ft went to Charlie Smith & Chris Kightley, whilst best junior went to Josh Herrant and best female to Sissy Herrant

A big huge thank you and well done to all the riders on the night. Same time next year but until then - Ben Izzard - he's the Daddy now!

Sissy Herrant and Natalie Silkstone

Who's The Daddy at Tamworth on 7th
Posted Tuesday 27th October 2009, 3:05 pm by Dunx

We still can't decide whether this is friendly rivalry or a battle with bloodshed a serious possibility, but Tamworth SnowDome will be holding their annual Who's The Daddy? event on Saturday 7th November. With skiers having won every year so far, we encourage all snowboarders to "get creative"!
