RBS Ltd. provides security marking to deter thieves. The Home Office strongly recommends marking your possessions. It is well accepted that thieves and those handling stolen property will avoid marked items so that there are no links between them and the crime. Unfortunately for the police statistics show that the vast majority of victims of theft cannot provide any worthwhile ID of the items taken thus leaving the police with little to help convict thieves or handlers of stolen property.
Our security packs are easy and quick to fit. They include visible (Anti-Tamper ID) and hidden (RFID microchips) plus FREE lifetime registration on the police database, the National Mobile Property Register.
RFID microchips which conform to International Standards Organisation 11784/5 are increasingly becoming the ‘de facto’ standard for covertly marking property. In the UK enforcement of EU legislation means that Local Authority Trading Standards are now equipping with ISO scanners to read these chips.
The police database is extending across Europe and America and you can set up your own account through the portal www.immobilise.com and it is FREE including changing your address or selling an item.
Snow-Tags are the latest release by RBS to put this technology at the disposal of skiers and snowboarders.
Never given freestyle a go? Well, Saturday 1st May is your chance at The Hemel Hempstead Snow Centre. We've secured an amazing £50 all day pass for SCUK members. There will also be freestyle taster sessions throughout the day with Maverix and Definition for both snowboarders and skiers, plus a jam competition that evening.
Snow-search Japan is the first book in a new series which explore countries in more depth than ever before. It also heralds a change in direction for WSG Media, from previously covering just snowboarding to including skiing as well.
The book has been designed for travellers who are visiting Japan for snow sports but want to experience many of the cultural delights Japan offers whilst there. It covers the major cities such as Tokyo that you’ll fly into and the ski towns where you’ll be based whilst there. Amongst other topics, travel, food, language, and working in Japan are all covered in detail, plus over 70 resorts have been comprehensively reviewed and broken down into easy-to-read sections and rated according to your style of skiing/riding.
“One of the key issues to skiing and riding in Japan is how the off-piste regulations differ between resorts..” says Coordinating Author Keith Stubbs, “some resorts support visitors going off the marked trails and others are strongly against it, but it’s not always clear what the rules are. For example one resort has some impressive off-piste photos all over its brochures, but will take your lift-pass if they catch you there”.
Initial reviews in the press have been extremely positive. In its February Edition Ski+Board Magazine said “At last – a really good guide to skiing in Japan”, and Cooler Magazine “we can’t recommend it enough”. Snowsphere.com stated “it’s not only the best ski guide on Japan ever to have been published, but one of the best ski guides out there, full stop”.
Snow-search Japan has taken over three years to produce and introduces a new way of compiling a guidebook. We ran a number of long road trips out to Japan. Each visit would include a professional photographer as well as professional Skiers and Snowboarders, so the shots you see in the book are not stock photography and are what you can expect to see on the mountains in Japan. Travelling like this gave us a similar perspective to regular visitors, which was further enhanced by meeting up with local riders and resort staff. All of this has been combined in the text to give a fresh, infectious, excitement that’s backed up with meticulous accuracy.

Well, here's all the carnage from the inaugural SCUK Winter Bash Dash, which saw Dave 'pocket' Oldacre and Dawn 'figureitout' Craig as winners of the coveted "Fist of Nuff Respect" trophies. A mad downhill dash with over 50 riders from the SCUK Winter Bash doing their very best to be the first one down on the last run of the week. For some though, just getting down was enough and that's what made the event so good. Hope to see you all again next year and we'll do it all again.

The time has come…winter is here... time to get all your kit out and try it all on, maybe even strap your board on in your lounge (we’ve all done it, haven’t we?!) and start dreaming of your immanent escape to the mountains. The problem is that given that the euro and pound are pretty much one for one the usual destinations seem a little out of reach this year. Time to broaden your horizons and try somewhere new. Ever thought of Poland?... neither had I!
Succumbing to the reality that a trip to the French Alps was highly unlikely this year I began to consider other alternatives. Until setting up Sunshine World as a discount partner with Snowboard Club UK Poland had never been on my radar, but with prices in the French Alps going through the roof and the fact your après ski beer will cost you less than £2 Poland definitely seemed worth a shot! Sunshine World offer all inclusive 7 night packages customised to your specifications from just £375 per person, and with return flights costing as little as £60 return a week’s holiday will cost you a credit card friendly £435!
With a flight to Krakow of just over 2 hours and the same again for the Sunshine World transfer we were in Zakopane in just over 4 hours. Despite its size Zakopane is a quaint, romantic town placed at the heart of the Tatra Mountains in the far south of Poland. It was a surprisingly large resort, probably the largest I’ve been to in fact, but still managed to have the alpine atmosphere of a smaller French resort. We were there in mid January but it still had all the charm and ambiance of the Christmas holidays, complete with Santa and his reindeer! The main stretch of town had a varied choice of restaurants, ranging from Pizza Hut and the Golden Arches (McDonalds) to quaint traditional polish restaurants complete with traditional 4 polish bands. Most menus have an English translation, although it’s not always the best idea to know you’re eating “grandma’s homemade lard”, just one of the traditional Polish dishes! The food is good hearty mountain food, although it consists mostly of meat there is still a selection of vegetarian dishes on most menus. Dinner costs an average of £20 for a two course meal, including drinks, for two people. If you not too full and fancy a night out there’s some good bars that stay open till around midnight and a few clubs that go till about 3/4am.
Sunshine World offers accommodation ranging from luxury 3* hotels, picturesque chalets to basic hostels. Our chalet was in a charming and quiet area approximately 20 minutes from the main stretch of town and although you can walk it a taxi will only cost around £2.50. The chalet was picturesque and as far as we could see the light switches, door handles and windows were the only things not crafted from wood. There was a small communal area with access to a computer and free internet (wifi is available in all the rooms at no extra cost) but not really anywhere to relax. However, the rooms were warm, cosy and clean and considering you are either out on the mountain during the day or at a restaurant in the evening this really didn’t prove to a problem at all. The owner of the Chalet was friendly and more than happy to answer any questions we had. Breakfast (which is included) was a traditional breakfast of cold meats, bread, cheese, yogurt, cereals and tea and coffee and available from 9-10.30.
The Sunshine World team picks you up every morning at 10am (the time can be arranged to suit you) and takes you to one of the skiing areas around Zakopane. Bania and Kotelnica, Bialka Tatrzanska, which is about a 40 minute drive from Zakopane was our first stop. I was half expecting to see dated, perilous lifts but instead found that the lifts were the same standard as any you’ll find in the more developed resorts in Europe. There are 5 chair lifts, 3 drag lifts and a few t-bars which accommodate all levels of rider, from beginner to intermediate. Although queues for the main lifts at the bottom were reasonable during the week they did get much busier over the weekend. There was a new Burton park being built whilst we were there, which was pretty small but still looked fun. There are a few bars and a canteen style restaurant as well as a highly recommended 3* hotel restaurant which serves traditional hearty, warming meals and cost on average £15-20 for food and drink for two. Bania is the largest ski area after the big mountain, Kasprowy Wierch, which was unfortunately closed whilst we there. Kasprowy is a national park so it won’t open unless there is 2 metres of snow. We also went to Szymoszkowa, which was a super small hill with only 2 chair lifts, a perfect opportunity to take advantage of the professional coaching Sunshine World offer. Having never had any professional lessons I was keen to get some coaching with one of the instructors. James, who was a level 3 CASI instructor, was an excellent, patient and passionate teacher who genuinely enjoyed seeing me improve on my technique throughout the day. Even if you don’t feel you need any lessons I would highly recommend taking advantage of this opportunity.
The whole Sunshine World team are young, enthusiastic and friendly and genuinely enjoy each other’s company. This made for a relaxed environment which felt more like riding with a group of mates than with ski reps. All the staff are professionally qualified, English speaking and very competent. The instructors have a true passion for their chosen sport which comes across in their individual teaching style. The staff at Sunshine World go out of their way to make it as hassle free as they can for you. I would recommend Poland and Sunshine World to anyone looking for a friendly, comfortable and cheap holiday. The slopes do get a little repetitive after a few hours but all in all I’d say that it’s great value for money and perfect for beginner to intermediate levels. Of course we didn’t get to see the big mountain, which we’re told is far more challenging for the more experienced rider. If the stories of the big mountain were true I would not hesitate in going back.
On top of the already dirt cheap prices Sunshine World offer SCUK members a further 10% discount! View SCUK discount offer here.

Jake was filming at The Snow Centre, Hemel with the BBC this morning, for an Olympic Special for Sportsround. I was at Hemel until 1.30am putting out the SCUK Box and the DC rail for him, then back there at 8am for a quick shape up of the kickers.
The Beeb miked him up when he got there, something new to Jake, so I hope the language wasn't too colourful. He was interviewed by presenter Ore Oduba, who Jake had to give a snowboard lesson to. Ore had never boarded before, but was a skier and took to it really well. Jake then spent 20 minutes being filmed hitting the rail and box.
Whilst Jake represented the snowboarding side of events, Ciaran Gillespie (also 11) represented the skiers, testing Ore's skiing skills around the slalom poles. Both Jake and Ciaran had a great time, more so for having time off school.
The programme is being aired tomorrow (Friday) at 18.30 on CBBC Channel (Sky 613, Freeview 70, Virgin 701) and then again on BBC2 Saturday morning at 7.25. It is also having a link on Newsround BBC1 at 17.00 tomorrow and will be available to watch on the Newsround web site for a week.

It all started during the winter of 2006- 2007 when a few friends who use to build snowboards (Caution Snowboards & Sasquatch Snowboards) got together and founded Shotgun Snowboards. Shotgun Snowboards was an underground movement. At the time you had to know someone who knew someone in the inner core group to buy and ride a Shotgun Snowboard. Pretty quickly people started hearing about Shotgun Snowboards and the demand started to grow. If you’ve been lucky enough to ride a Shotgun Snowboard then you are in the know.
In August of 2009… Shotgun Snowboards expanded out to include apparel as well. Shotgun Boardwear Inc. was born. Shotgun is a full action sports apparel company catering to the Snowboard, Surf, Ski, Wakeboard and Skateboard industries. Our Shotgun apparel line consists of men’s, women’s and children’s apparel pieces with one unique added benefit… enter the First Ride Foundation. First Ride is a for-profit charity that recognizes that not all children can afford to ride. We help introduce children to these sports who may not have the means to do so. A portion of every Shotgun apparel piece goes to our First Ride efforts. Shotgun is the first action sports company to “give back” in such a way. We are not like other companies who donate money to causes… First Ride and giving back is actually part of our business plan.
We are excited about the future here at Shotgun and are stoked that you took the time to read this… now buy some stuff and help some kids!

Next week, 100 of the SCUK massive descend on Dragon Lodge and Tignes, France for the 2010 SCUK Winter Bash. It's always a bit of a laugh where friends are made, lines shared and candles unwisely burned at both ends.
There's the Welcome Meal on Sunday (read "piss up on a plate") and the legendary SCUK Pub Quiz on Tuesday (read "questionable piss up"), plus a good old fashioned piss up at the party night at the Loop Bar on Friday. On top of that we hear there's several big mountains to explore and to make the most of those we have enlisted the expert services of the Dragon Lodge guiding team that comes in the variable shapes and sizes of Will Hughes, Glenn Wood, Si Belson and John Dragon himself.
But we've done all that before, so this year we thought we'd add something new.
The inaugural SCUK Winter Bash Dash will begin last thing Friday afternoon as the lifts close and the slopes clear for "just one more run". All SCUKers will gather at the top of the Palafour lift with a Le Mans style start. On the judges' and orders, they will race to their boards, strap in and dash to the bottom, elbows out. The prize is a bag full of kudos and the Fist of Nuff Respect trophy; one for ladies and one for the gents.
Rules? Bash snowboarders only, er... no heavy petting, don't run with scissors and no arguing with your mum. We think that about covers it.
