Well sort of. The construction is going at full steam and the actual sloping bit inside the structure is as good as finished. The rest of the building framework is almost done and the front part of the cladding is now in place. Eleven months to go until the expected opening.[Shots by Andy Dixon]

Brinkz has the lastest shots from the construction of the Castleford Xscape for us. Apparently they're only a week behind schedule due to bad weather, but they're working hard as pos' to make it up and hoping for a mild winter so as to stay on track.

As the Milton Keynes slope was originally dubbed Crystal Mountain, so was the Castleford development called Leisure Mountain. The development is officially now an Xscape development, although we still don't know whether the slope will be a Snozone or go by some other name.

PY Gerbeau has revealed that the Castleford Xscape will include a 16m ice climbing wall. An opening date of September 2003 has also been mentioned, in keeping with previous information.From an article in the The Herald.

Although the date will almost certainly be after the currently planned opening date, the developers hope that the Castleford Xscape will open during the Autumn of 2003 - about 18 months time.

We sent mc8 back to have another look at the plans (ta!). She says that the original plans for two 15m wide slopes, plus the lesson slope seems to have changed. Healthland Partnership will be working together with Capital and Regional on the Castleford project. They say they have learnt many valuable lessons from the Milton Keynes project and many of those have already been taken into account for the Castleford Xscape.

An anonymous source reveals that construction of the Castelford slope will begin on 2nd October 2000.

The Boarder has spoken to a local, who says that at the moment the retail park next to the snow dome is open and trading and the area where the dome is to be built is cleared and levelled but no building works have started as yet.

The Boarder has spoken to the architects for the planned dome, who say that the project is looking good and that they are waiting the final go ahead for the project. They suggest that an announcement in the property press may be made soon.
