A new year brings new changes to Maverix Snow
Posted Tuesday 10th January 2012, 12:26 pm by Dunx
SCUK partners Maverix Snow will be joining SCUK on the SCUK Winter Bash in February this year to have a cruise around with us and to offer some additional coaching. They're a progressive bunch and are certainly at the forefront when it comes to their offering within the UK and beyond.

It’s amazing to think that Maverix has been running coaching courses in the UK since 2008 and now as we start another new year we have a great series of developments that we're really excited about.

New Android app

Our iphone app was a great way to connect with our clients and that product will be further developed this year, but we did not want to leave out all the other smartphone users, so we now have a wicked android app ready to download via out home page.

Android Market Place

Off to Landgraaf

The team is always looking to expand its reach and seek out the best possible facilities for riders. This season that means we’ll be heading to Landgraaf in Holland for a special 3 day coaching event. With a permanent park and slope reaching above 500m it’s the largest snow centre in the world and only a few hours drive from Calais.

Online payment with debit and credit cards instantly

Right from the beginning of Maverix we wanted people to be able to purchase their courses online instantly. This began with a simple paypal system, but now you have the option to pay directly with your debit or credit card. We’re the only UK coaching company to provide this instant and secure form of payment.

Online retail, off-piste equipment hire and travel insurance

Riders do not just need coaching. We now stock an ever increasing range of products including ski and board luggage from SnoKart, Bluebird wax, protection from Forcefield, training videos from Snowboard Addiction, off piste safety equipment hire from BCA and travel insurance from Tagis.

Knowledge centre

At Maverix we’re committed to expanding knowledge in the sport. That is why we’re created the knowledge blog and knowledge centre that provides an opportunity to share thoughts and experiences and provide access to additional learning for all riders, be they newbies or seasoned pros. If you have any insights/areas of interest and want to write an article for us then give us an e-mail with a short summary of what you want to write and you could be one of our featured writers!

www.maverix.org/pages/Knowledge-Centre.html

Live chat with the team

Many of our clients have questions about courses or need a quick bit of advice, so we’ve now setup an online chat facility on the web site where if you have any questions you can chat instantly with a member of the team.

Summer and winter European camps

We’ve made the bold move of reducing the number of available spaces and introducing a levels system for our winter and summer camps. We want to provide the best possible product for our clients and therefore reducing the coaching ratio is a first step towards this. Plus, we often find that there are splits in the ability of clients who attend courses, which can sometimes affect the overall progression of the group. With our new green, blue, red and black levels people can review their skill level and choose the most appropriate course to suit their needs and ability. That way our course delivers a higher rate of progression and better value for money for each rider.

Have a great rest of the winter and keep an eye out as we have some more cool plans in the pipeline.

Another season of Just Camps in association with Quiksilver
Posted Thursday 15th September 2011, 1:12 pm by Dunx
It’s not long till the winter so get your snowboards waxed and ready. Just Snowboard Camps is back, bigger and better than before, for another season of helping you make the most of your shred time. Their camps are the perfect opportunity to help get your snow legs back, improve your freestyle skills and this year there is something for everyone.

Since starting up a couple of seasons back, Just Snowboard Camps, in association with Quiksilver, has come a long way. The upcoming winter schedule reflects this with a new format and some new camps to suit everyone. Once again the freestyle and performance dates are on the agenda but also this year there are two new camps to take note off:

The Tyro camp, aimed at fledgling and wannabe shredders. Everyone started somewhere and no better place to perfect the basic skills than with a course designed specifically for the early stages of riding.

The ACME Camp, for the rider who can already ride anywhere. Aimed at expanding the boundaries of where you can go and what you can enjoy whilst there, how to get into the back country responsibly and the knowledge to deal with any eventualities.

With these additions and a new two tier approach to the existing camps, Just Snowboard now have a program of events to suit all levels and can convert even the most tyronic novice into a full on shred Jedi.

The team also have more instructors. Mint Snowboarding are fully qualified to the highest international level in snowboard coaching, but each coach also brings their own distinct style and experience to the team. This enables them to have true passionate experts to take classes in all aspects of snowboarding.

Through their involvement with the camps Mountain Mavericks have been able to enhance their dedication to riders over the years, which culminates in the launch of Ridewell Lodge this winter. A chalet format aimed exclusively at snowboarders and as a result the chalet will be better suited to the needs of you. For example, more LibTech demo boards and better tech facilities courtesy of Bluebird.

Second Burton Freestyle Camp a huge success
Posted Thursday 8th September 2011, 1:00 pm by Dunx
The second of this year’s Burton Freestyle Camps was the biggest to date. With 65 people at the camp it was an awesome atmosphere and a great night for progression!

Once again the experience of the Tamworth Snowdome coaches shone through and there where huge smiles all round! With lots of prizes up for grabs, both adult and child freestylers got stuck into a variety of slope features they had in front of them proving they where deserving of ‘most improved’ rider within their groups.

A few bruises and new tricks later, the evening drew to an end, lot’s of goodies won and a holiday with Rude Chalets on their Park, Pipe and Job tour went to Kai Casswell, it was certainly a night to remember for all involved.

Until next year…

GFC freestyle courses are aimed at developing the freestyle of the rider whatever their level.

We understand that everyone learns differently and at different rates. So, we ensure everyone gets the individual attention they need to develop. We will use mental rehearsal techniques, video analysis and demonstrations to help with the learning process.

The aim is not just to help the attendee improve over the day but give them the tools to help them develop their freestyle every time they ride. Each attendee will receive video footage, photos and written feedback.

SNO!zone offers freestyle coaching and advice to aspiring riders
Posted Tuesday 23rd August 2011, 11:38 am by Dunx
SNO!zone, the UK’s only chain of indoor real snow slopes, is welcoming in the new snowsport season by offering an exclusive coaching session with SNO!zone’s sponsored riders and instructors as part of the Who’s Afraid of the Park? Tour.

Following the success of the tour in June, Who’s Afraid of the Park? will be returning to SNO!zone’s centres in Milton Keynes, Castleford (near Leeds) and Braehead (near Glasgow) over the coming month. It aims to encourage intermediate-level riders to be more adventurous on the slopes and inspire them to reach their full potential.

A freestyle park will be available to practice newly-found tricks while riders will also be able to showcase their skills on the slopes at the end of each session as part of a ‘Just for Fun’ competition.

SNO!zone will also be offering giveaways throughout the session to congratulate riders for their achievements, with prizes from The Snowboard Asylum, Bucks Boarding and many more!

SNO!zone’s qualified instructors and sponsored riders such as Angus Malloch, Jamie Nicholls, Chris Chatt and more, will be on hand throughout the tour to give advice and tips to budding skiers or snowboarders.

Sarah Porteus, SNO!zone head of marketing, said: “The tour will be a great way to kick off the start of the new season. We’re really looking forward to encouraging people to learn new skills and develop their riding so they can not only make the most of UK snowsports scene but also enjoy more playtime in ski resorts and snowparks worldwide.

“It’s fantastic that so many of our sponsored riders are involved in giving first hand advice and demo’s to help those who can do the basics to increase their repertoire and learn new techniques. Its amazing to see what can be achieved in only a couple of hours with the right help, and you never know, maybe we’ll even uncover some potential talent for our sponsored riders scheme!”

Youth Development Academy from Maverix
Posted Monday 22nd August 2011, 7:40 pm by Dunx
As we move into our 4th season of coaching in the UK it has become apparent that there is a great opportunity to support young talent going forward. Our youth development team, now in its 3rd year, have progressed really well with the alumni of Becky Menday and Calum Paton moving into the GB team. Now with Jake Binnee (11 yrs) and Josh Ogden (14 yrs) heading up the team and pulling in their first sponsors, things are looking up. But what about all the other great kids out there?

We have developed a tailored programme for 7-15 year olds at Castleford on 18th September, Hemel Snow Centre on 17th December, and Milton Keynes on 7th January. With discounted prices and inspirational support from our youth team, then this is set to build into something really special.

Once this series is complete we can start to roll out a regular programme creating a more solid platform for kids to progress and achieve all their snowboard goals, with the possibility of joining the Maverix team. For more information please visit www.maverix.org or check out the team and their achievements to date www.maverix.org/pages/Our-Youth-Team.html

Maverix crew achieve top freestyle qualifications
Posted Friday 3rd June 2011, 10:06 am by Dunx
Most of the crew have been away for the majority of May updating their skills with BASI. They held the first freestyle ski level 2 assessment with Pat Sharples running the show. Both Simon Stephens and Luke McCarthy who run our ski clinics achieved the target having to throw down some solid moves to pass the grade.

We also had Lon Canu, Mark King and fresh newbie to the crew Dave McCarthy working with Hamish McKnight and Lesley McKenna to push their coaching and technical skills to the limit and achieved the level 2 snowboard freestyle qualifications.

Currently the level 2 is the highest freestyle qualification available through the UK system, which means you guys will have access to the most qualified freestyle coaches in the UK.

SCUK Members also get a 6% discount at Maverix.
