Whistler Blackcomb ended its 2012-13 ski season last weekend, having been the final ski area in Canada still open, a week after Sunshine at Banff ended their season.

However the resort will re-open its ski slopes in just a few weeks for five weeks of summer snowsports camps running from June 22 - July 28, 2013.

Whistler Blackcomb’s summer facilities on the glacier include Olympic-sized half-pipes, mogul lanes, and a host of terrain park features and multiple camps to choose from, for both skiers and riders, teens and adults, with weekend and week-long program options to choose from.

Five main choices include The Camp of Champions summer snowboard/ski camp is home to the world's largest private terrain park, serviced by its own T-bar lift, and campers have a private dorm to sleep in and private compound to play in off the hill, and a host of inclusive afternoon activities like paintball, skateboarding and cinema trips.

Alternatively the Dave Murray Summer Ski and Snowboard Camp is North America's longest running but constantly evolving ski and snowboard camp. The original Snow Camp in North America it has been the model for all others, offering snowboard, ski race programs, and "New School/freestyle " skiing. To do this, we have included amazing terrain including, pipes, park, a progressive terrain park for all ability levels, and groomed race lanes. The Camp's racing foundation continues to be successful with high profile coaches and racers.

A third option, the Momentum Ski Camp focuses on Mogul, Slopestyle and Half Pipe Skiing for competitive and recreational skiers of all ages.

Finally Planet Ski International promise to teach astonishing "insider" short-cut secrets to amazing moves, bigger air and total ski control they promise, or Whistler Summer Snowboard Camps has another private Super Pipe and has more area than ever with more rails and a larger overall terrain park.

The first Adaptive Snowboard Level 1 Instructor course of the year will be held at Tamworth SnowDome starting on 16th June.

The course focuses on the learning progression including both knowledge and awareness of disabilities. Students are trained and assessed on an ongoing basis to develop technical and teaching skills and promote an understanding of all safety requirements.

It's going to be a big summer for snowboarding, skiing and biking in Les Deux Alpes, with a whole host of UK riders keen to make the most of great slopes, gnarly trails, baking hot weather and fun times off the hill. With the Eurozone suffering, last year was the quietest on the slopes in years, and we don't expect things to change this summer.

The age of the splitboard has arrived! The mighty Mont Blanc massif and its stunning glacial formations make Chamonix one of the world’s most revered and well-respected freeride destinations.

If you love riding powder, want to push your snowboarding to another level and experience some breath-taking backcountry terrain then you’ve definitely got to give split boarding a go! Itinerary

Day 1 Saturday: Arrival day

Day 2 Sunday: Mountain warm up day – limber up and find your feet for the week ahead.

Day 3 Monday: First day on the splitty!
- Intro to the kit - How the boards and bindings move between a board and skis; Attaching / detaching skins.
- Avalanche rescue workshop – learn how to use transceivers, probe and shovel. Demonstrations and practicing search and recovery techniques - all vital skills you need to have to enjoy the back country.
- Glacier training - where you will experience 1st hand (and safely!) what it is like to be in a crevasse as each person will spend time in a crevasse and practice self-rescue techniques. You also learn invaluable lessons about how crevasses work, snow bridges and how to spot when you may be either on or close to a crevasse.

By the end of this first day you should feel well informed on the use of the kit that you will be using and have new found back country skills.

Day 4 Tuesday: First tour in the valley, armed with all the new found knowledge and skills it’s off to locate some secret powder stashes that can’t be found from the lifts. You will get to practice some more of the vital skills needed to tour including the technique of kick turns which are needed as terrain steepens.

Day 5, 6 & 7 Wednesday – Friday: Each day you will use your split boards to explore a different part of the amazing Chamonix backcountry, as the groups skill, confidence and fitness grows we will make bigger, higher and steeper tours accessing some of the most amazing terrain the valley has to offer. One of the highlights will be the Col de Passon – a 2.5 hour uphill trek followed by an epic 3000m descent!

We'll be keeping the client numbers low to enable us to really invest in your development as a rider. Starting with piste performance and moving through flatland tricks and spins as we head towards a solid focus on freestyle for the week as Les Deux Alpes is well known for having one of the best summer parks in Europe. We're looking for riders up for meeting a small group of like minded people who love snowboarding and want to progress their performance and have as much fun off the slopes as on it. With the summer glacier being very well contained and our camps being run outside of peak season you can expect to achieve a lot in great conditions.

Once you've paid your deposit you'll be entitled to one off 25% discount on any UK course, enabling you to test out our coaching methods and more fully prepare yourself for one of the greatest holidays you'll have.

We provide a fully independent setup, allowing the team to invest more time in your on piste development and fun off the slopes. Our half board hotel is literally 1 minute from the main lift station. The Riders Apartments will be providing our self-catering option for those riders looking to experience great summer riding on a budget. For those interested in the half board option we urge you to confirm your booking prior to 1st May to avoid the hotel becoming fully booked.

Just had some news from Ash Newness and the Snowboard Coach crew who got in touch to let us know they have relocated all their courses and camps to the duty and tax free resort of Arinsal, in Andorra.

They will be offering full “all in” holiday packages for their weekly mountain riding courses and freestyle weeks throughout the winter. On top of that, they will be doing their renowned instructor training programs, including their season long BASI level 2 and 3 programs as well as instructor course prep weeks for all levels of BASI. Remember these guys are the ones who actually take the BASI exams.

Also, for those looking at qualifying as freestyle coaches, they are doing week long level 1 freestyle performance coaching exams throughout the winter as well.

The first UKCP Snowboarding Level 1 Course (Freestyle) has been launched.

The UKCP Coaching Pathway supersedes all previous coaching or performance qualifications. This is a combined project between BASI, Snowsport Scotland, Snowsport England and Snowsport Wales who will all be offering the same qualifications – same names and same course content. These are not qualifications that will allow you to instruct a beginner in the sport, but a fantastic bolt on to all instructors wishing to teach Freestyle Snowboarding or anyone over 16 who can freestyle who is looking to coach at Club level in the UK. The qualification will however also count as a module towards a BASI L3 ISIA award.



The first course to be run is to be held at Swadlincote Dryslope 16-18 Nov, and will be delivered by Ben Kinnear.

We had yet another amazing Freestyle Camp this year, people travelled from as far as Scotland to SnowDome Tamworth for the evening event. Who wouldn’t, with the likes of Ollie Dutton, Matt Higson, Ross Needham, Gaz Andrews and the top SnowDome coaches on offer, to give you top tips or first steps to aid your freestyle career?

With the Campers broken into Groups they headed out on to the misty hill that was Tamworth SnowDome. Beginner box sessions, rail sessions and kicker sessions all set in motion.

The demo tent was a flurry of activity with the kids making the most of the new 2013 Burton range. The Custom Smalls and the new Super Hero Smalls where definite favourites among them with parents looking more worried at the hit there credit cards where going to take rather than the huge air these kids where getting of the kicker!! The ladies enjoyed the Social whilst the guys got loose on Whammy Bars.

The two hours where up and everyone moved inside all buzzing on their new tricks. They all went home with a prize for their efforts and bruises with huge smiles on their faces. We may have some of the best snowboarders in the UK but the night didn’t belong to them, it belonged to our Campers!

With the camp over and the second session starting at Tamworth every single Camper picked up their board put on their new swag and headed back out to the hill to put their new skills into practice, now that’s an achievement!

All skiers who have an interest in freestyle coaching can now book on the first BASI Freeski Coach L1 course of the season which is due to take place at Tamworth Snowdome on 10th-12th September 2012.

This 3 day course costs £280 (excluding slope fee).

Freestyle skis are recommended for this course (obviously) and riders should be physically fit and able to perform among others, backwards switches, jumps and carve clean turns.

The course aims to give skiers a good understanding of what makes a coach capable, credible and successful in the long-term development of young athletes.
