The latest forecasts from sunny Dubai in the Arabian Gulf is that thegiant snowdome project first mooted three years ago remains on course.
Towards the end of 2003, the Majid Al Futtaim group will start opening the Souk Al Nakheel complex which will introduce the next generation of entertainment, leisure and shopping centers to the region. At its heart will be the first snow playground in the Middle East - with real snow.
The snow playground will include a 'giant' indoor ski slope served by a state-of-the-art ski lift, the slope will offer downhill runs for both skiers and snowboarders from beginners to experts. The whole snow complex will be enclosed under a high tech snow dome where fresh snow will fall every night in a temperate-controlled environment.
The project will include retail stores, a giant hypermarket and parking for 5,000 cars. The entertainment and leisure facilities will cover a 45,000 square metre area and include a 2,000 seat cinema complex; a food court; coffee shops and themed restaurants.
