Kevin Pearce in intensive care after halfpipe injury
Posted Sunday 3rd January 2010, 9:00 pm by Dunx
Snowboarder Kevin Pearce (Norwich, VT) remains in critical condition at the University of Utah Hospital intensive care unit in Salt Lake City. Doctors indicate that his condition is stable and that he is continuing treatment for a head injury sustained on December 31, 2009 while training in the halfpipe in Park City, Utah. Pearce was in the process of completing a cab double cork (a twisting double back flip which he has landed before) when he caught his toe-side edge while landing. Pearce was wearing a helmet at the time of his fall. Kevin was airlifted to the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City where he is being treated.

One of Kevin’s doctors, Holly Ledyard, M.D., a Neurointensivist (a physician with specialized education and training in critical neurological conditions) at University of Utah Health Care states….“Kevin sustained a severe traumatic brain injury. He is currently in intensive care and in critical condition, but stable and has not needed to undergo surgery at this time. He is intubated and being kept sedated. The focus over the next week will be watching for any swelling in his brain and keeping his brain pressure normal. Kevin has a long recovery ahead of him.”

Family and friends remain positive and are thankful for the outpouring of support. The family has created a Facebook Fan page, Well Wishes to our Frend Kevin Pearce, where followers can receive information and updates on his condition and show their support for Kevin.
