LG FREEZE Connects with massive crowd
Posted Thursday 5th November 2009, 10:23 am by Dunx

This was London FREEZE's second year, with around 500 tonnes of snow again going into transforming Battersea Power Station into a massive snowsports and music festival. Headlining the music this year were Orbital on the Friday, Eagles of Death Metal and Calvin Harris on Saturday and Friendly Fires on Sunday.

This year also saw the innovation by sponsors LG of having 3 Twitter reporters being the eyes and ears of the fans at the event. On Sunday the skiing was significantly delayed because of the rain and schedules were having to be altered, so LG's concept of having these specialist Twitterati giving constant updates on the schedule, and being the eyes and ears for the public, came into its own. Fans with 3G effectively had a real-time event program by tuning into what these guys were saying - where to be, what's going on, etc. All tweets were also being broadcast on the big screen in the LG hub at the event.

For more info and pictures from the event check out FREEZE Connect at www.londonfreeze.com/lg - it's the central hub for all social network activities around FSO4 FREEZE sponsored by LG. Before the event it had already built an astonishingly active online community around the event with music and snowsports fans receiving exclusive news, and there are still competitions going on. It just goes to show how popular winters sports are becoming in the UK.

Saturday's LG FIS Snowboard World Cup Results:

Britain's Ben Kilner finished 14th out of 53 competitors in the LG Snowboard World Cup event at Battersea on Saturday. Kilner, the UK's top ranked snowboarder, was the top home finisher in front of a record crowd of just under 13,000 for a British winter sports event.

The event was won by leading Austrian rider Stefan Gimpl, who celebrated his 30th birthday by finishing ahead of Swiss Gian-Luica Cavigelli and Slovenians Domen Bizjak and Matevz Pristavec.

Sunday night's International Freestyle Ski Big Air Results:

Australian Russ Henshaw won the Big Air freeskiing competition on Sunday night, in a breath-taking contest which went right down to the last jump. Bobby Brown of the USA came a very close second and Andreas Hatveit of Norway finished 3rd.
