New Zealand will get the "southern hemisphere's first snow park" this June when a new centre, simply named 'Snow Park' opens following an investment of more than $1.5 (NZ) on snowmaking and grooming equipment. Located 21 miles from Wanaka and 37 miles north from Queenstown airport, the 10 hectare park has a 124m vertical served by a T Bar lift. Earthworks are currently being completed to create terrain features including a super pipe, two half pipes, more than 20 rails and fun boxes plus a dozen table, hips, spines and tomb stones. There will also be skiercross and boardercross courses. Events are planned to be a major part of Snow Park and the centre intends to be involved in the annual Wanaka based World Heli Challenge as well as organising freeride camps. ![]() |
