New Dryslope For Sussex
Posted Tuesday 26th February 2002, 12:29 pm by Dunx
Knockhatch Ski and Snowboard Centre is the UK's newest artificial slope and it's already broken a world record - it was built in only 7 weeks. Made from Tufglide, the Powder Pack ski surface is completely revolutionary - an ultra-safe surface which actually looks like, feels like and ski's like snow. This all helps reduce the fear factor for beginners and experts alike as the new surface gives a softer landing than the traditional dry ski slope.

As well as a 110m slope for skiers and boarders, there's a nursery slope, jump pan, table top ridge and toboganning. Ski and board hire are available and there's a Ski Lodge with bar and snacks. The Centre is part of the popular Knockhatch Adventure Park and skiing; snowboarding and toboganning can all be combined with the Park activities during summer. Summer activities include Junior Quad Bikes, Go-karting, Laser Adventure Game and a Giant Sky Leap Slide as well as indoor play areas and a birds of prey display.

Both ski and snowboarding lessons are available - a snowboard Trial Lesson costs £17.50 for 90 minutes and covers aspects of safety, kitting up and about an hour on the slope. Beginner snowboard course costs £45 for three 90 minute lessons. Ski lessons start at £15 for a 90 minute Trial Lesson which can be treated as your first lesson and the cost deducted from the Beginner course costing £39 for three 90 minute lessons. Taking a Beginner course could save you at least 2 days if you are planning to go on a ski holiday! Both Private and Group lessons are available and only Knockhatch staff are permitted to teach on the slope.

One hour session of open skiing costs £6.50 or boarding £8.50 and this includes use of equipment. The Open Practise sessions are for competent skiers and boarders only - skiers must be able to snowplough, do a controlled turn and use the ski lift while 'boarders must be capable of linked turns and controlled stops.

Knockhatch Ski and Snowboard Centre is situated on the A22 to the west of Hailsham, about 8 miles north of Eastbourne and 30 minutes from Brighton, Hastings and Tunbridge Wells. Information: 01323 843035. Bookings: 01323 843344
