It was a true clash of the titans today at the Swatch TTR 6Star Burton European Open in Laax where the top TTR snowboarders fought it out on the Slopestyle course in hope of rising up the world rankings. 1000 TTR ranking points and part of the total prize purse of $125 000 USD were up for grabs and it was Danny Davis (USA) who took the incentive to step it up and win his first 6Star event. His first place has moved him up into World No.18 on the Swatch TTR World Ranking list. In second came Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) whose performance has pushed him into Swatch TTR World No.3. Also the women were hungry to close the gap on TTR Tour leader, Jamie Anderson. Lisa Wiik (NOR) took out top honours in the girls competition which moved her into World No.14 whilst the local rider from Flims, Sina Candrian (SUI), came second and jumped into TTR World No.2. In third came Kjersti Oestgaard Buaas from Norway.

For the 10th Birthday of the Burton European Open the riders decided to show just how far snowboarding has progressed over the last ten years. All of them utilized the impressive course to its full potential, busting out enormous tricks and technical rail combos. Throughout the day, Wiik stomped a huge Mctwist, BS 5s and FS 3s which snuck her in a cut above the rest. “My goal this season was to get into the Swatch TTR Top 5 so I will do more TTR events. I had good start I guess”, she said. Sina Candrian was the only girl in the contest who landed a FS 9 which certainly helped her come in second. Kjersti Buaas (NOR) rounded out the Top 3 with stylish Alley Oops, FS 3s and an FS 7 Mute.

In a tight final, Danny Davis eventually claimed the Slopestyle Title with styled out combos comprised of tech rail tricks, Switch BS 9s, FS 10s and Cab 9s. “My first TTR win. I’m really happy now that I’ve got some TTR points. I’ll be at more TTR contests and it definitely puts more meaning into the season”.
Chas Guldemond (USA) managed to hold onto his TTR Tour Lead as Peetu Piiroinen ascended into World No. 3, right behind Janne Korpi (FIN). French Canadians Charles Reid and Sebastian Toutant are sitting right behind in World No.4 and 5. Tim Humphreys has now moved into the Swatch TTR Top 10, whilst last year’s Swatch TTR Tour Champion, Kevin Pearce, has moved up one spot into Swatch TTR No.9.
