@UK PLC plans to raise a million for Britain's Elite Snowsport Athletes.
@UK PLC today (8/1/02) announced plans to raise a million for Britain's ski hopefuls with the launch of the "Support Our Skiers" campaign. [We've checked and this generic terms includes all flavours of skiers and snowboarders.]
Harnessing the combined strength of Britain's ski clubs, ski slopes and the ski industry, @UK PLC plans to provide the infrastructure to allow the snowsports grassroots to go online and raise money for Britain's under-funded snowsports competitors.
Ex Olympic Skier, Ronald Duncan kicked off the campaign by saying "Skiing gave me an amazing amount of pleasure over the years and it is great to be able to put something back into the sport. The objective is to transform our skiers from 'nearly men' to winners."
The plan involves giving all ski clubs access to a free website and putting the slopes and ski industry into a skiing market place. This initiative is supported by a series of grassroots events around Britain. @UK PLC will contribute 35% of its revenues to generate the £1million target.
@UK PLC provides complete e-commerce solutions. The cost of a 200 page website with unlimited products is £250. Clients such as Redshark are selling over £1million per annum using this solution. The aim is to sign up more customers and give skiing around £80 per new site.
Supportive of the scheme, Bruce Crawford, Development Manager of Snowsport Scotland stated, "It is great to have an initiative that will bring more people into the sport and support the strong club structure that exists in Scotland."
The British Ski & Snowboard Federation is delighted to welcome this new initiative. Performance Director, Graham Bell welcomed the opportunity to attract addition funding. He stated, "While British competitors currently do amazingly well on the funding provided by sponsors like The British Land Company PLC, our funding falls well short of that of the major ski nations. The additional help will go some way to level the playing field."
