McKenna Disappointed in Arosa

Women's FIS World Cup Half-pipe, Arosa, SUI, 9th January 2002

Lesley McKenna (27, Aviemore), Britain's top competitive half-pipe rider, returned to Europe for her 3rd Snowboard World Cup today. Unfortunately a narrowly cut halfpipe made conditions difficult for all competitors. In qualification Lesley was placed 5th, but a mistake in her second run left her in 10th overall. Fabienne Reuteler (SUI) took her first World Cup win of the season, with several unheard of names finishing in the top 6. This was a disappointing result for Lesley and does not reflect her previous top 5 World Cup results in Tignes and Whistler.

Melanie Leando, still on the return from injury, fell in her qualification round and did not place. However she is riding well and confidently, and making good progress.

Both riders now look forward to the World Cup at Alpe d'Huez on Saturday 12th January 2002.
