Posted Tuesday 13th May 2008, 8:20 am by Dunx
Ex British Snowboard Champion Neil McNab is to be awarded the Citizens Medal of Valor by the United States Department of the Interior for the brave rescue of a badly injured Korean climber left for dead high on the slopes of Denali 6194m (Mount McKinley) in Alaska in 2004.

McNab, one of Britain’s leading Professional Freeride Snowboarders and a High Mountain Guide, climbed through a vicious storm for some 18 hours (with climbing partner Andy Perkins, also to be awarded the Medal of Valor) to reach and rescue the fallen Korean climber.

Both McNab and Perkins were previously awarded the prestigious PMI Denali Mountaineers of the Year award for playing their part in this 18 hour epic and will now receive this further accolade The Citizens award for Bravery from the US Department of the Interior.

Neil McNab is one of Britain’s most highly qualified Mountain sports athletes and one of Britain’s leading Professional freeride snowboarders, skiers and climbers. McNab lives in the French Alps where he runs his company McNab Snowsports specialising in training courses for freeride, freestyle and backcountry skiers and snowboarders.
