British Snowboard Teams secure valuable points
Posted Wednesday 12th March 2008, 8:44 am by Dunx

The British Halfpipe, Snowboardcross and Freestyle Teams secured valuable points over the weekend when they competed in the seventh FIS World Cup Halfpipe and Snowboardcross competitions in Stoneham, Canada and Europa Cup, Big Air and Slopestyle events in Slovenia.

The British World Cup Halfpipe Team

Sam Cullum, Dan Wakeham, Ben Kilner and Kate Foster competed in the second-to-last FIS World Cup Halfpipe competition of the season on 9th March in Stoneham, Canada. Despite the heavy snowfall and fresh snow in the flat bottom of the pipe, all riders achieved great results. Sam Cullum was the best of the Brits with 18th place, the best World Cup result of his career. Dan Wakeham landed two 900’s to take 19th place whilst Ben Kilner and Kate Foster linked together solid runs to both finish in 23rd place overall.

Results
Sam Cullum – 18th place
Dan Wakeham – 19th place
Ben Kilner – 23rd place
Kate Foster – 23rd place

The British World Cup Snowboardcross Team

Zoe Gillings competed in her 5th consecutive World Cup Snowboardcross race on Friday 7th March in Stoneham, Canada. Gillings made it through to the quarter final rounds where she unfortunately crashed out missing out on a spot into the semi finals, finishing in 12th place overall. Reigning World Cup champion Lindsey Jacobellis secured her fourth win of the season, despite catching her edge on the final landing resulting in her crashing into the finish arch and finally crossing the line headfirst. “That was a painful victory, I noticed I was falling and just tried to aim for the finish line” said the 22 year old American after the race.

Results
Zoe Gillings – 12th place
James Foster – 51st place

The British Freestyle Team

Laura Berry, Dom Harington and Jack Shackleton from the British Freestyle Team continued to fill podium spots over the weekend when they competed in the Europa Cup Big Air and Slopestyle event in Rogla, Slovenia. Laura Berry proved to be back to full fitness in the Big Air and Slopestyle, when she scooped gold in both events after being the only girl in the competition to not only hit but spin (360) over the big 18m kicker. Dom Harington walked away with a silver and bronze to add to his collection after he landed a solid cab 900 in the Big Air and a frontside 540 to cab 540 in the slopestyle competition.

Europa Cup Big Air Results
Laura Berry – 1st place
Dom Harington – 2nd place
Jack Shackleton – Top 10, position TBC

Europa Cup Slopestyle Results
Laura Berry – 1st place
Dom Harington – 3rd place
Jack Shackleton – Top 10, position - TBC

The British Snowboardcross Team

Over in Chamonix, France, at the weekend, Tim McGregor and Michael Arrowsmith from the British Snowboardcross Team competed in the FIS Snowboardcross event. Tim, who is new to the British Snowboardcross Team this season, achieved an impressive 18th place and continues to go from strength to strength. Michael, who has recently returned from injury and was riding in only his second race of the season finished in a respectable 34th and 38th place.

Michael Arrowsmith – 34th & 38th place
