Construction has begun on the Madrid Xanadu in Arroyomolinos (Madrid), Spain.

Madrid Xanadu, a trailblazing full-price retail and entertainment venue of approximately 1.2 million square feet (124,000 meters square), will feature over 200 specialty retailers, 20 anchor stores, and a variety of dining and entertainment attractions. The project is scheduled to open in spring 2003.

Three major components of Madrid Xanadu have already been announced: El Corte Ingles, Spain's dominant department store, will offer nearly 400,000 square feet of a fashion department store. Additionally, a first-of-its-kind indoor Snow Dome designed as the largest in Europe, will offer a theme park-scale collection of family attractions, including snowboarding, skiing, sledding and other alpine recreation.
