Snozone, the UK’s largest indoor real snow slope, has joined forces with a leading spinal injury charity to run a special day on 15 September 2001, for disabled people to experience the freedom of the slopes.
In association with the Back-Up Trust, the Snozone Adaptive Ski Club is offering the premium real snow facilities to anyone suffering from spinal injuries, deafness, blindness or multiple sclerosis. The day is open to all, so even if you've never been near a slope before this is your chance to get your first taste of just how much is possible. The day will be run by specially trained ski instructors assisted by “buddies” using adapted ski-bobs and ski-karts. Half hour taster sessions are available from 10am until 4pm. Back-Up supporters who have skied before will be able to use the slopes at the reduced price of £10 per hour, which includes a £5 donation to Back-Up. Places are limited, so booking is essential.
Three people each day in the UK suffer accidents which result in spinal cord trauma. For many the initial shock is replaced by a numbing loss of confidence and freedom, and it is this that the Back-Up Trust seeks to rebuild. Via skiing on snow and water, abseiling, gliding and kayaking experiences the charity empowers individuals to live independent lives again.
Stories abound of people who have taken to action sports with enthusiasm after traumatic injuries but thanks to Back-Up those events aren’t unique, and Snozone hope that their special day on September 15th combined with their weekly Adaptive Ski Club will help many people to gain a new slant on life. So if you know anyone who might just like to give this a go, let them know the details.
Bookings can be made through Danny at The Back-Up Trust on 020 8875 1805.
