The Department of Transport are in the process of putting together the Cableways Installation Regulations - as required by the European Commission's Cableways Directive. This Directive involves the harmonising of national laws regarding the conformity assessment of the components of cableways installations designed to carry persons, and that the necessary safety and enforcement checks are carried out on such equipment. The laws will also apply to newly constructed ski lifts and cable cars that are built after the legislation comes into place, which is scheduled for January 2002.
They're currently trying to get a count of the drags, pomas and tows in the UK to assess the level of future safety enforcement predicted for these in the future.
We told 'em nuffing. It'll be straight cucumbers before you know it. What? Noooooooo...
