From April 1st 2001, Aspen allowed snowboarders on to Ajax (Aspen Mountain). The remaining US ski resorts that don't allow snowboarders are Toas in New Mexico, Alta and Deer Valley in Utah and Mad River Glen in Vermont. Japan too had their own "boarder bans" up to the late 1990's. Before that some Japanese resorts limited access times and insisted boarders paid to have a 'competence test' before being allowed on the snow at all. This attitude has now been relaxed to get the punters in. However, Japan also operates a number of 'snowboarder only' indoor snow domes (for example CoolVal) but there are no known campaigns to 'free' these for skiers. [Taken from Snow24] |
