Construction on Beckton's indoor slope will start in September this year and they expect the slope to open in November 2002. They will be using Acer Snowmec guns to create the snow, so it will be a Snozone rather than Snowdome snow experience.
Although rumoured to have the UK's first indoor chair, uplift will actually be provided by a combination of drag and conveyor.
The current slope is too steep for real snow and the gradient will be reduced. However, the expectation is that the slope length will actually be increased beyond the current 200m, although previous figures have been suggesting a 195m slope. The site does seem to be large enough to cater for a longer slope and the slope width of 45m is ideal for boarders (unless they stick posts down the middle of course).
There are no details on prices yet, but they will be providing tuition for those that need it.
Beckton has always had a good boarding thang 'appinin' and the new slope will continue to cater for the boarders, with special snowboarding sessions during the week when the slope opens.
At the current time, the slope is just a slope. Just about everything has been scraped off it.
