The dry slope at Beckton is currently being dismantled. An auction on the 5th May saw most things go, but there does seem to be a few ramps lying around if anybody is interested and wants to make them an offer. The uplift has gone, most of the Dendix has gone and some of the outlying buildings have been demolished. But what of the new slope? Despite emailing and phoning, we've not managed to get any official comment. As far as we know, the slope will be around 200m long and retain the current steep slope. It will be anchored by nothing more than the pull of great indoor snow, a rather out of place Chinese restaurant and a rather comfy chair lift. When we visited the site today, we did talk to a rather knowledgeable chap who had bought a load of stuff for his own dry slopes. He suggested that not only that the steepness of the slope would have to be reduced to make the slope viable, but also that it's more likely that they're looking at a two year development. We also have a very kind offer from JB who passes the slope on his daily commute. Armed with his trusty digital camera, he has said he'll take a few shots as the slope develops. We'll keep you to that :) Having read back on the news, I may be doing the progress of the development an injustice. On leaving the site, there was some serious work being undertaken at the back of the slope in the centre of the aerial shot here. It seemed like a lot of pile driving and possibly water works were being undertaken and all seemed pretty serious in stark contrast to the work at the front of the slope. This may be the start of the work on the multi-story car park that will service the slope, although JB thinks these works may have more to do with the current work to rebuild the A13 flyovers and has even come up with a link to Street Management to back this up. Okay, JB you win :) |
