Salomon Grom Camps, the number one Freeski camps for skiers of all ages and standards, are continuing to offer up freestyle training sessions at Tamworth Snowdome, Chille Factore and Sno!Zone Xscape Castleford as well as regular freestyle nights at indoor slopes around the country. Skiing they might be, but we like freestyle skiers these days. Official. Pat Sharples, who started the Grom camps in 2005, says, “The only think you need to attend a Grom camp is to be passionate about skiing at the rest is easy.” The camps now cater to all ability levels, and are open to all ages, having so far attracted skiers from age 4 to 64. “After recently taking on the new job as head coach and team manager of the British Freeski team, it has really got me thinking how important it is for me to make sure the grass roots of our sport doesn't get neglected,” says Sharples of the camps and their role in identifying and developing British talent Former campers such as James Woods have even gone on to win Winter X Games medals. The camps have been a major contributor to the growth of the UK freeski scene, and prices are kept to just £30 so that they’re accessible to everyone who wants to give freestyle skiing a go. There’s always plenty of swag up for grabs too from sponsors including Salomon and Oakley. Coming events include Tamworth Snowdome on 7th, 21st August and 13th November from 8-11pm and Chill Factore Manchester on 23rd August, 20th September, 18th October and 22nd November from 7-9pm. |
