Australia’s promising start to winter 2012 has continued with large snowfalls reported at many of the country’s leading ski areas in New South Wales and Victoria. Mt Hotham has done especially well from the new accumulations with snow falling heavily and persistently up to the weekend with 48cm of fresh snow has fallen in 24 hours falling at one point. By Friday afternoon the fresh snowfall total was 54cm since the start of the storm with the radar promising more to come. The average natural snow depth is 70cm with more in snow-making areas. The resort’s Heavenly Valley is set to open for the first time this weekend, bringing the total number of operating lifts to six. |
