Most companies suggest you charge batteries overnight the first time.

any online review videos are completely misleading anyway because it depends how well it was encoded by the editing programe and what setting the editor had the software set to. You can have the best footage in the world but if render out the final movie at the wrong setting its not going to look great. means its kind of pointless basing a review on anything put online.

Any idea what settings they use for the offical GoPro videos? They look pretty crisp even in 360p.

Cheers.

And while I was looking at other peoples videos here is quite possibly the best GoPro video ever. GoPro stolen by a seagull. I kid you not!

Amazed he got it back!
Here's another interesting vid. It's all wing suit base jumping but skip through to 5.00 where you'll see why the Drift's velcro mounts are favoured by many base jumpers. Also how tough they are.

I would suspect that they are most definitely using 1080p .. I can't talk for them with regards the format that they use, for me I prefer filming in 720p 60fps - I take the mp4 format file and import it into cyberlink powerdirector, do my editing etc and create the output as mp4 .. then upload to youtube.

It is then available in all levels including oddily enough 1080p.

Just thought to update to say I've now got a Hero HD 2 - the difference in quality is massive imho. The low light handling has been improved big time. On the old model I found that you may as well forget trying to film indoors i.e. whilst you are in the chalet etc .. having filmed in different light levels indoors with the 2 I know that it will be perfect for all day and the bar Smile.

It also seems much better at handling the change in light from looking from dark into light and vice versa. Well worth upgrading if you have the chance.

GoPro1 -> GoPro2?

As above, the difference is bigger in bad light. In good light there's not a massive difference, but it's there. I was planning on avoiding the 2, but I made the mistake of borrowing one and I didn't want to switch back.

H.264 720p/60fps up-rezzed to 1080p... you can do that, but the missing pixels obviously have to come from somewhere.

Not sure what GoPro etc will be bringing out next, but it all gets cheaper/ better...

I bought mine off an ebay company. They were £100 cheaper than other places I looked at.
Just been on a scuba diving holiday with it and it was fantastic. Went below 30m and it was fine. All I need now is a red filter, oh and I'm slightly addicted to buying the extra's.

I did the same! But make sure you check the feedback, not just the amount sold!

Saved £100 on mine, even with extra mounts and stuff Smile

Super happy Very Happy

Just seen the Contour +2 (or whatever its called) video - looks like a picture quality improvement, but i imagine (and hope!) the Hero2 is still superior.

The whole GPS tracking the contour offers seems such a waste of time - they should spend that money investing in superior audio and video capture technology - and perhaps slimline the case if possible. Just a gimmick and no one will use as its not going to be anywhere near accurate enough. Ive used the Altimeter on my Suunto for serious-purposes once (and that was only walking up and into Vesuvius with a geologist!) other than that it just peeps when i go in a lift or drive through a tunnel!

Be interesting to see a comparison spec-sheet between contour2 and hero2. There might already be one, but i really cannot be bothered to look...
