I'm sure you can throw down more tricks than me, but what is it with starting in 94/95 and still being rubbish
I've basically been riding half of my life - world renowned pros have been born since I started riding. I should be at the end of a pro career, nevermind struggling how to do a boardslide.
I can remember when I was starting in the late 90s at Norwich, and James Thorne was riding there at the same time and I was more or less the same standard kind of - learning to go off kickers. I turn my back for 5 minutes, and he's a pro living in a caravan around the mountains of Europe and sponsored by Burton, and I'm still learning how to ride kickers. Its unfair!"

I know Ace, I can't help but think that I should be way better than I am... especially at freestyle. I think it's a case of mostly riding for a week or two here and there rather than season after season. It's amazing how much easier it is to improve even with just two weeks back to back compared to one.

it's an ago vs fear thing as well...
i was already older/the same age than my then (and still) heroes...Jamie Lynn, Terje, Palmer etc
I was already to late to catch up.... and I never have haha.... i reckon a season would sort me out..... maybe if i get caught in the Feb redundancies........
Experience: Stood on a snowboard wearing ski boots, a Campri jacket and shades for the first time on a school ski trip in 1991 and a few times after but started riding regularly about 12 years ago i think.
Competence: Getting worse as my body gives up, hit my freestyle peek about 4 years ago but you get more into freeriding the older you get anyway...
Resorts Visited: Tignes, Val Disere, Morzine, Avoriaz, La Plagne, Champagne en Vanoise, Chamonix, Courchevel, Merribel, Les menuires, Alpe Duez, Laax, Flims, Kunertal, Jasna, a few in Greece, few small Italian ones and Cervinia, Whistler, Grouse, Breckenridge, Mammoth, Jackson Hole, Snow Shoe, Stowe. Just moved to the East Coast of the US so riding all those hills over this season.
Local Slope: Liberty Mountain resort, Pennsylvania
Goals: To get rid of this sciatica, get fit enough to walk again, then fit enough to ride, first time in my life that im living next to a mountain and i can hardly move let alone ride.

Yeah had it before and it really worked but not shifting it this time. Luckily we've got private healthcare in the US so im having loads of physio for free and its starting to have an effect.
Competence: Can get down pretty much anything and technically I think ok - no handbag arm at last check ! Always on the lookout for some powder to play in. Park riding needs a bit more work but finding it harder to get up after the slams as I get older !
Resorts Visited: Arinsal, Garmish, Zell am See, Kaprun, Saalbach Hinterglemm, Stubai, Kuhtai, Axamer Lizum, Espace Killy, Laax, Hakuba, Perisher, Thredbo,
Local Slope: Flumserberg/Laax/St Anton
Goals: More back country riding and to take advantage of moving to Zurich and hitting as many different resorts as I can

Regular/Goofy: Goofy
Equipment: Skate Bananna 159, Burton bindings and some DC boots that cripple me a bit, plus a whole lot of green clothing making me quite easy to identify
Experience: 2 years. Started at the same time as the Mrs so have done a couple of weeks away plus countless fridge sessions.

Age: 42
Weight: 10.5st
Height: 5ft 7
Regular/Goofy: Regular
Equipment: Forum Youngblood Chillidog 10/11, Drake Supersports, Salomon F20. Looking for a new AM board [bought 20/12/11 Head The Evil Kers]
Experience: Negligible. Started March 11, 6 hours on a real mountain, weekly rides at snowdome since starting. Previously 5 weeks skiing spread over 19 years!
Competence: In my head, superbly competent but in practice, untested. Did survive blue runs down the mountain with the most sketchy of basic turns just after 2 lessons. In the dome, can not infrequently produce decent carved turns and easily dodge swerving skiers but not good enough to avoid being hit from the back by them. Reasonably comfortable with switch. BS/FS boardslides on boxes/rails and basic grabs and 180s on baby kickers. Crap at buttering.
Resorts visited: La Clusaz. As a skier: L2A, Soll, Crans-Montana, Courchevel, La Clusaz
Local Slope: Tam Snowdome
Goals: Being a very late starter, max the fun before getting too old (already older than most of you). Stay away from skis despite family pressure. Avoid serious injury. For 11/12 winter season: become comfortable on red pistes, a taste of powder, 360s on the kickers, a taste of the half-pipe, 180s on off boxes [FS180 on - Dec 11], get better at buttering.

Resorts visited: Whistler 3 times, Banff, Les Arcs, Avoriaz, Tignes and a few random small places in France/Austria.

I think it's quite interesting how both the internet (especially social media and forums) and snowboarding are considered "Young" things for the "kids", yet it seems most people on this forum are 30+ (not saying 30 is old before anyone starts!) and no one really below the age of 20!
