Just had an awesome session @ Hemel this evening, nice & quiet with loads of runs in on the slope.
I've got a question though, for all those still on the path of learning this snowboarding malarky - is it just me who spends the first 30mins or so feeling like an absolute beginner before the knowledge of your lessons kick in & you start enjoying yourself??? |

| Nope! I spent a good hour at CFe tonight trying to remember to chill out and just let it run down the slope a bit. Helps if I go regularly but had a 6 week break before tonight. Hopefully better next week. |

No, im exactly the same.
At the beginning of a sesh, i think im ace.. I remember those last few go's on my last sesh that went well, think it will come straight back and its all in the muscle memory ... Fall over a lot and realise i need to concentrate still.
Then i concentrate and can board ok. |

I only went last week as well (although in my defence I did tweak my back out then), but tonight I just seemed to have real trouble going from heel edge to toe edge (other way round is fine) - just seem to end up skidding out and ending up with the board perpendicular to the slope!!
Kind of got it towards the end of the session, but just really get the hump with myself for just not getting the basics... |

I hsve the same problem, toe to heal feel much more natural.
Heal to toe, ... Left foot down start to turn, right foot down and if i want to keep a slow contolled pace with full c shape turns I look back up the slope when i can this seems to help. Also before i set off, i remind myself to 'concentrate'
Theres much better advice out there from the real boarders on here but from a beginner this i exactly where im at too... Other way around is much easier for me and i guess its because you naturally look down slope.
My big problem is having a good run and thinking im there, then dont really concentrate next run and end up on my arse. Ive only done about 7 hours total so just hoping it will come. |

| I've been at this off and on since 2006 and some days it still takes a couple of runs before I get comfy. When learning, toe to heel turns came to me first, heel to toe took a while. I put that down to facing down the mountain on heel edge and basic fear causing me to shy away from the turn as the nose went down, this caused my speed to increase which made me shy away more. My cure was to be more aggressive in heel to toe turns and force my weight forward, me taking control of the board and not the other way around. |

I have the same issues, but I'm thinking maybe I've made a discovery. There are obviously more qualified people on here to give out advice, but here's my observation:
because I'm riding the hire boards from cas still, when they get handed over the bindings are always setup slightly differently. I've also tried a combination of 163 and 158 sized boards and have found I'm much better on a 158. What I've discovered is that tweaking the angles makes a big difference to how I perform.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is try tweaking the setup if you're struggling to find what works, you might find it makes a massive difference.
Now back to watching 'martin clunes : horsepower' |

I've got my own board, and have got the set up pretty much how I want it, but I think it's more of a mental thing.
I went again at the weekend, and from the first run it all seemed to click, but then halfway through the session I started losing the ability to do heel to toe turns again - just kind of happened and I didn't have a clue why?!?!?
It's not stopping me from enjoying myself, but it's bloody frustrating when it happens... |

Most likely muscle fatigue. The better you get the easier it is and the longer you can ride. |

Sounds like the excuse I need to go more often (not that I needed one..)!!! |
