Does getting a new board really help if I have a 3/4 year old Ride board that I think seems fine.
Or do people get a new board moslty because they just want one with new nice colours and pictures on it? |

Since my last board was also my first board i can't really answer.
Future me would probably say "i didn't really need it but like new shiny things" and justify it with some claptrap about different board for a different style of riding. |

My old board was from 2007 and the tech has moved on a lot since then with new profiles, side-cuts etc.. It was great for hard charging but not much good for anything else and I wanted a board that could do more. So I bought a hybrid profile as I figured it would enable me to get a more playful board that would still kill it all over the mountain.
* I also just wanted a nice shiny new board |

I don't have the spare cash to buy a board because I fancy it, so my wife and family grouped together to get vouchers for my local snowboard shop to get me my new board when I snapped the one I had.
Plus, I have demo'd lots of new boards over the years, and with very few exceptions the difference hasn't been noticeable enough for me to think to myself "Gosh, this is loads better and will make me ride like a pro" compared to my board of the time. I know that the main thing holding back my riding (And probably the same as with 90% of snowboarders out there ) is that I'm scared to try stuff and my technique isn't textbook! |

| My first board, Artec Cipher, was 2nd hand and i found it way too stiff so went for a cheap park board, K2 WWW, that was really fun in the domes but after one week on the mountain it was wayyyy too soft so splashed out on my Never Summer Evo which i love. I'll no doubt look at something more all mountain for when i go out for the season though. |

There wasn't really a options which explained my reason for buying a new board so I chose the bottom one Altrhough in hindsight I probably should have picked the first option. Oh well.
After my second season I decided that my original was just a little too crappy (It was a very cheap F2, I think I spent about 150 euros for board and bindings! And while it served it's purpose for one season, I decided I needed something to take it to the next level. So I got myself a Rome Vinyl. I've had it for five years now. Have been umming and ahhing over buying a new board but can't justify spending that kind of money right now.. |

I seem to get a new board every season.......because i like to keep up with technology
well I also like shiney new things!
last year i changed form the old Ride DH2 to the new Ride DH2........but it wasnt cause it looked better it was because it was a better board with a new hybrid camber profile that really worked for me when i demoed it! |

| If you are happy with your board, spend the money on snow time and coaching. You could demo some boards while you spend the money on extra snowtime and see if any of them make a huge difference. Actually going snowboarding makes a bigger difference than buying stuff in terms of being good. I had 60 boards at one point last year, all cambers, shapes and sizes, I tried a fair few of them and surprise surprise I was still quite rubbish! |
