How long will a board last, im really new to this .. And wonder how long a board will last me if i buy new? Based on eg , one week in the mountains per year and approx once in the indoor slope per month as a payday treat. Could a board last say 10 years??

Considering both a new board or a 2nd hand for the first year and half.. If your board could potentially last a few years perhaps a good idea to pick up a forgiving board that needs a new home and upgrading once ive found my style ? If they last a long time.. Why not ??

In fact any me and my board stories , long relationships, heartbreaks etc maybe a good thread

i've still got 2 boards from 95/6 that are perfectly rideable.... a bit heavy and out dated tech but still good fun

if you look after it, store it correctly have it serviced etc... there's plenty of 10 year old boards knocking around....

that said i love new kit so ride it hard, treat it like crap and buy next years model Wink

I've had a Ride DH for just under 2 seasons, but when I went to Capita it lasted 3 months e.g. 80ish days!!!!

It depends on how hard you're gonna be riding it.

Same as Branny, i've got two boards from 95/96 - one a Hammer Pulp that I bought when I was 16 and is still in one piece, although probably a bit lifeless... Also got a Burton Air which I bought for a tenner from a local charity shop which is heavy as hell comparitively speaking but still works beautifully and is my regular dryslope board at the moment! But they're still going strong at 15 plus years old.

On the other hand I had a Venue that I bought in Canada and rode for about 80 days, and cos I was riding it every day, and fairly hard, I snapped it before the end of the season. I also had a Capita that was a super fun board but I also snapped that after about a lot shorter time.

So if you just want a board to slide on, then they can go on forever. If you want it to keep performing as you would want it to, perhaps 5 or so years of regular use, but shorter if you're going to be razzing it hard every week!

I know! The best bit was, there was another one there - a 2003 Burton Canyon - also for a tenner!

I find that my freestyle boards last less time than my all mountain boards because I abuse them. It depends on how well made the board is and how you treat them.

I find that newer more flexible/light materials being used in construction are not as durable as the old gear (thats me being technical there). The top sheets on both mine an prives latest boards (different brands) had large chunks chipping away on the first few days of riding. Happy to substitute life span of boards for a better experience tho.

As I don't do seasons tho I tend to upgrade before the board is actually dead, so wouldnt know how long till they give in.

Ok well i had the chance so picked up a old burton supermodel for £35... I looks decent enough and better condition than the boards ive been using at snozone.. Although ill keep using the hire board for time being as i have no bindings or boots lol. Hey if it doesnt turn out ill just resell and eventually go see those nice people at tsa to match me up with my dream board!

Its a 59 from year 2000 i think. Got palm trees on the underside and looks more like a surfboard than a snowboard in the graphics department.

My board is an 04/05, bought it in 2006 and have used it every year since, was in Tignes a few months ago and still love it, will be a sad day when I eventually buy a new one!

Doesnt matter, am chasing a certain year supermodel that it appears nobody bought ever or wants to sell on.

A 2000 supermodel wont ride like a board from this year but it will still ride well. It will just require a bit more effor ton your part.

If I were you I'd hold onto it over summer, have a play, if you dont like it put it back on ebay in oct/nov and get £50 plus for it becuase its got the burton logo on it.

Theres a plan, i just need to pick up some boots. Then ill give it a go at castleford. See how i progress with it. Just means i have a constant, if its good for me.. Then who knows. Cashflow isnt really a big issue, but lessons are pricey and at beginners stage i think it would be foolish to spend a load on a board.. Im really not sure my riding style yet and probably best to wait for a few months before i can test a few boards. At the moment.. A board is a board to me if you see what i mean.

Still, its interesting to hear some of the stories.

I can recommend getting a real cheap older 2nd hand board to learn on. When you start, you don't know what you don't like, if that makes sense. People were boarding just fine 10 years ago on 10 year old boards.

The first couple of days of learning, I was holding the board back. When I got better, the board was holding me back, and I knew why - so I'm now better armed to go get a new board. Plus I've got a board I only spent £20 on as a nice backup.
