Hey evryone B-)

Im sat in a and e right now after a nasty fall last week, thinking of tryin out some body armour, rib and back protection. Does anyone use it or recomend any brands? Im thinking its prob a smart move but some of it looks heavy or uncomfortable.
I sort of expected this kind of thing but if pain can be reduced im all for that Wink

I've got a Scott CRX back protector (Did a lot of online research and decided it was the best for me, i hardly realise I'm wearing it) and wear impact shorts, wouldn't ride without them, they have saved me many times with falls on ice or boxes/rails. I find wearing them (as well as a helmet) gives me the confidence to enjoy myself on the slopes without worrying about falling over.

Has anybody got any advice for body armour for your chest rathar than back? As well as a back protector I think I need something for my chest.

If I fall forwards by chest tends to come down on my arm. Whilst it doesn't hurt my arm, I 've had bruised ribs for the last 2 weeks!

I would say forcefield for any type of protection.

Their new back protector - The race lite vest, is crazily light.

They do everything you can imagine to protect too.

Also Amplifi, around half the cost of Forcefield, available from a few select UK snowboard shops.
I'm a little bias as they one of my sons sponsors, it does what it says it does. He says the back protection is lighter than the forcefild one he had.

Reading up on that- it looks good.
It's made of EPS - which I know that in helmets is useless after 1 crash due to the fact that it works by crushing, is that the same for this impact protection do you know Yoda?

I'm guessing you have insider knowledge that us mortals can only dream of.

I've just bought the Head Thorac vest in anticipation of doing a Maverix freestyle course in the summer. It was an impulse buy as it was reduced from £99 to £25 on Amazon. Plus, Head is a reputable brand and it was designed specifically for ski & snowboard use. Anyone else used one? Seems light & comfy with protection for the whole back as well as an articulated spine. Hopefully never need it!

Protective equipment should be replaced after its been in a crash, its done its job then, regardless what it is and who makes it. No manufacture would guaranteee their equipment after its been in a crash.

Forcefield do! Unless I am misinterpreting the phrase "The materials we use offer repeat performance technology."

Repeat Performance Technology

The materials we use offer repeat performance technology. Hard shell protectors can only take one impact and should be discarded immediately after a fall.

bit vague isn't it.... depends on the size of your slam!!

I dunno, I'm no expert! according to forcefield you don't have to throw it away after you fall, and they are made primarily for motorbike falls which (again I know nothing about, definately not an "expert", never been on one) but I guess are much harder than the falls than we would have. I don't think they would write that if it wasnt true as they would just be sued.

All I was saying was that I know that EPS is useless after 1 crash, and I didn't know that back protectors were made of it. It doesn't mean people shouldn't buy them, as most of us wear EPS helmets anyway.
