Managed to pick a fight with these folk on facebook: http://nopeboards.com/tech/

Seems like they overlooked the impending patent infringement lawsuit from Lib Tech for ripping off magnetraction.

More likely they will end up licensing the tech from Mervin (if their patent is granted and enforceable) . Litigation sucks up money and the benefits to excluding a competitor are minor in comparison to a royalty on everything of yours they sell..

Funny thing is that he slated me for pointing out magnetraction, and soon after, retracted his comments Smile

Do love their idea of an embedded QRC though at the bottom of that page.

Unless you work for Lib Tech why does it matter to you?

It doesn't, but the fact that he was obnoxious does.

Quite a few non mervin boards have a serrated side cut. Patents have to be very specific, change a few angles and justify the change as delivering a slightly different benefit and you should be safe.

Don't think these guys have anything to worry about

they seem a bit confrontational with the established board manufacturers.

I see that Angry snowboarder has written a letter to them as well.. Worth a read

As a safety device, we are working to create an app for smart phones that will, upon scanning, provide the location of the board. Without the use of expensive GPS chips, this would provide safety for anyone using the board, should the rider become lost or hurt.

Bit of a random one....I guess if your lost in the woods somewhere you get your phone out and scann the code then the app tels you where you are......or your could just use the google maps app thats already on your phone!

I know every (?) board has a serial number on it, but a QRC would make it easy to pick up a board and scan it to see who it belonged to and for the person who has the code registered to know where it had been scanned. Not really "safety" though is it, more "security"? Have I just come up with a good idea? You could even glue a QRC on the top sheet after-market as long as the glue was strong enough to damage the topsheet on removal and hence ruin re-sale value.

every board already has a serial number? whats the difference?

bit of a gimmick imo.

'scan in the qrc on your smartphone to let rescuers know where you are' - or just call 999? cant they locate phones now anyway?

By that logic we needn't bother with bar codes on everything in the supermarket. How about the fact it is far quicker and easier.

My only issues with QRCs is that they are a bit, er, ugly.

As i was told a couple of weeks ago the recco technology is to find you when your dead, hardly seems worth paying for them to find my board if im dead. lol
