There seems to be quite a few people on here who want to chat photography so I'm starting a thread for people to do just that.
I might even bring the photo competition back at some point.
So lets start with an easy one: What gear do you have? Also, what is your favourite bit of kit? This isn't a willy waving question, if you take photos with your camera phone then that's just as cool as doing it with a pro SLR
My current gear consists of the following:
Digital cameras:
Canon 40D & battery grip
Canon IXUS something or other for snapshots
Medium format film cameras:
Mamiya RB67 Pro S
Lomo Lubitel 166B
35mm film cameras:
Canon EOS300
Olympus OM10
Lenses:
Canon 24-70 f/2.8 L
Canon 50mm f/1.8
Sigma 10-20
Mamiya Sekor 90mm f/3.5
Olympus Zuiko 50mm f/1.8
Lighting and stuff:
Canon 430EX
Vivitar 285 HV
3x Pocket Wizard Plus II
Gossen Digipro F light meter
Light stands, brackets, cables, filters, umbrellas, reflectors etc etc.
I have the usual tripods and stuff as well along with a freezer that contains more film than food...
...wow I have a lot of stuff
My favourite piece of kit has to to be my RB67, even though it weighs well over 3kg. It takes lovely pictures. |

Well I'm only just learning to use the Zenit - borrowed it off my dad a few weeks ago - so haven't played with it much. Something very satisfying about a totally manual camera! My photos will prob be rubbish tho!
But since I got the battery grip for the 400D I really like it - feels meaty, and with the 10-20 I got a month or two ago I'm really loving it - its the camera that taught me about photography, and I owe it!!! At the moment I can't think of why I would want to go out and buy a more expensive model |

haha scheisse, you guys have heaps of equipment!
I have a new recently purchased Sony DSC-T90 Cybershot, which is hot! Just my general camera for anything and everything!
Also I do have a Fujifilm DSLR but can't for the life of me tell you what model it is. To be fair I haven't use it in a while, although it is a great camera.
I definitely would allow myself to have anymore camera, if you remember, I'll a little accident prone when drunk! (although would never use my DSLR when intoxicated!!) |

Ok so far I have:
Digital cameras:
Canon 500D
Canon IXUS 100IS for the quick and dirty
Lenses:
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
Filters:
7Dayshop ND2, UV, CPL Filters
Some Random Chinese UV Filter
BTW I know I'm probably ruining my pics by using cheap filters but once I know how to use them properly then I'll spend some pennies on better ones
Oh and a couple tripods
I'm currently looking to source a 50mm lens and then I think I'll have a reasonable basic set up. If anyone can recommend anything else I should really have in my bag please let me know.
My favourite piece so far is my 55-250mm lens. One of the main reasons I wanted to get a 'real' camera was so that I could get the shot I wanted and not frustrated that it was too far away or I couldn't get it framed properly |

Currently:
Camera:
450D
Lenses:
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (Kit)
Canon EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM
Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5
Accessories:
3rd party battery grip.
Hoya CPL (for the tele)
UV filters for all lenses
The 10-22 is technically my girlfriends, so need to get my own soon.. so I'm saving for that + decent tripod and a cokin grad filter set as I'm probably more interested in landscape than anything else.
My favourite bit of kit is probably the battery grip. Sounds silly, but I find it makes it easier to handle the camera. My second favourite is probably something I don't own but want which is the Cokin grad filter set that a friend owns so I have played with. |

I totally agree - my battery grip has transformed my camera - not sure what the 450D one is like, but I had to get the official Canon one as it seemed to be the only one that had controls on the grip as well as a shutter button
Ramirez - to get an idea if there's anything you ought to have, what kind of photography are you into? Landscape, portrait etc etc
Personally I love night photography - it gets cold sometimes, but often the results are pleasing |

A decent flash is always worth having unless you're going to exclusively shoot landscapes. You need to spend a bit of time learing how to use it effectively though, knowing how to fill with a flash is really important I think. Bad flash is obvious, good flash isn't. |
