Hi,

Still weighing up the Winter Bash, and thought I'd see what equipment I'll need. I'm a beginner level, so won't be doing anything too extreme.

Currently have:

- Goggles
- Gloves
- Pants
- Jacket
- Snowboard/Boots & Bindings
- Socks

Anything else I'd need?

I would recommend some wrist guards and if you don't like falling on your ar5e too much then I would suggest some impact shorts to prevent some bruising.

I always ride with a helmet and they are not too expensive, but I guess you can hire them there.

A combination of thin layers you can just keep adding to instead of lots of heavy clothes.

If you a chocolate lover I would buy from the UK as it's so expensive on the slopes.

That's just about it I think.

Good tips there, thanks Smile

Was just looking at thermals online, but I always found myself getting really hot when we went to Cairngorms and couldn't just dump my jacket. Might bring a long-sleeve t-shirt to go under my jacket and maybe a couple of normal Ts to go over that if need be.

What exactly do you mean by thermals? Do you just wear midlayer/jacket?

Thermals are what's bugging me at the moment.. As I've never really experienced mountain conditions it's hard to judge. When I go to Chill Factore I just wear a t-shirt under my jacket and that's enough, but there's no wind deal with there and it's only -3c.. Hmm..

I'm pretty unfit so I should warm up pretty quickly and my jacket seems substantial enough. I guess I could shop out there if desperate.

the idea is they don't just keep you warm, they keep you dry, they wick away the sweat from your skin so when you do stop your not sat about in a soggy cotton tshirt. look at something like helly hansen lifa dry can usually pick them up for a good price and will be cheaper buying at the resort.

You wont notice the cold boarding but the 10 mins on some of the big chair lifts gets cold. I usually go with base layer, tshirt and jacket

if you value your ass more than your head buy some impact shorts. the thing is you may be the greatest snowboarder on earth but that doesn't stop other people taking you out, i've had it done to me several times and at high speed generally you head will meet the floor. now don't get me wrong i might of been alright without the helmet but to be on the safe side i just prefer to wear one.

I always ride with one on. Can't get the link but if you can find it on the maverix web site read the blog J's mate Charlie wrote having come of a kicker landing badly. Admitidly it was a big one but 3 months in a coma and she was wearing one. But at the end of the day it's your call.

You can guarantee if you buy one you won't bump your head once but if don't buy one you'll fall on your head on the first day and spend the rest of the week in A&E or with badly knocked confidence.

I bought one for my first holiday (to Mayrhofen) and didn't wear it once. Then on my second holiday it snowed a lot (they keep your head dry) and I spent some time on the board cross and board park so I started wearing it - it made me board more confidently and I was glad I did when i landed on my head!!

If you can afford one (and most people can) there really isn't a good reason not to, compared to some good reasons for wearin' one!!

I need my head goo for work so i always wear a lid, its not worth the risk not wearing one.

dont for get normal clothes to your list, i took too few on my last holiday but i did spend most of my nights slobbed out in the hot tub.

When we were in Bansko last year, the Russian guy in our tuition group fell and broke his hire helmet into two pieces!! It's much better to have that happen to the helment rather than your head!! Also I would always buy one brand new, I know exactly what knocks its had. You can buy them from £50, not much when it's your life at stake.

What if another out of control skier , snowboarder or blader takes you out ????

It aint worth the risk mate , not nice drinking soup for the rest of your life

Buff for sure , as wind chill on lifts / chairs can be cold Smile
