after a lengthy recovery and a sh1t tonne of hassle with trying to pay online i finally got out on my raven core 154. gotta say that i love it, especially compared to the rental kit i had. riding on the piste is so much smoother and the flex for buttering is easier as well. still buiding myself back up to my proper park ability after breaking my collar bone at the moment but everything feels so much nicer all round in the park compared to the longer, stiffer nitro board i was riding. big thanks to rich at minus nine for hooking it all up and being so patient with me too. overall i'd say for a first buy board you couldn't really ask for much more with my ability and will definatly help with my progression in the last few weeks of the season. hope this is helpful for everyone.
peace out.
I am definately going to go for a Raven board after reading through this thread but my question is... do I go for a directional board or a TTT and how would I set my bindings if I have no obvious leading foot? Oh, no parks for me (too old for that carry on). Am happy ambling downhill.
Thanks muchly for any advice
Here's the thing. Looking to buy my first board. Beginner but learning quick. Not into freestyle much. Had a lot of thought on the raven boards. being heavy (95kg) and tall 188cm, thinking of something 160+ also foot size is a uk10/eur44 or so. snowboards24 also sell the pathron, but says its for experienced riders. don't realy know. snowboards24 suggested i get the grizzly, breathe, explorer or blur. Cant see any differences between them though.
Also a lot of mixed opinions here about the brand. Whats the bottom line? - good, or not really?
Many thanks in advance
or if I can get for the same buck a rossi sultan+?
Are there any agents or stockists on here that have a few Raven demo boards available to try? My usual fridge is the Snowdome however I can travel (within reason....!)
I'm looking at the Raven Blur, Grizzly, Grunge and Explorer at the moment but others are a possibility
Thanks in advance!
another newbie to the sport and i know this is an old thread but its helpfull.lol. been looking at the raven boards and i'm looking at getting 1 the board i have been getting at xscape is a 165cm i am 6'6 at about 14st and size 12 feet so just looking to see if anyone could recommend a good board for me and if the size of board is ok for me?? thanks in advance
Don't need it for tricks, just for snow domes and mountais but which one? I'm thinking maybe a 152.
I am about maybe 5'6 or 7. I'm not 100% sure. I weigh 10 stone. I'd like a board I can move but need it to be stable.
Also which bindngs? Im a siz 7 shoe / trainers and learning I used 7's
Is this stricktly a park board though or will I be alright on the rest of the mountain. Should I really be looking at the RVN or the Core?
Is there much difference in the bindings they do? are they just more durable the higher the numbers are?
Cheers

I've emailed them today and i did ask ths and got this response.
Hi,
The higher the number the better the straps and buckles. The more expensive bindings are lighter and have better dampening.
Anyhow, I need some help now. After I told them my weight, height, shoe size and what I'd be using the board for (snowdomes and mountains), no park runs and wanted something stable enough to take me down a mountain then they gave me these following suggestions.
Raven Snowboard RVN White Rocker 150cm 2013 + Binding s380 Blk/Grn
Raven Snowboard RVN White Rocker 150cm 2013 + Binding s750 Lime/Grn
Snowboard Raven RVN Black Rocker 150cm 2013 + Bindings Raven s750 Lime/Grn M - Thinking about this.
Raven SET: Board Breathe 150cm + Bindings Raven s750 Lime/Grn M
Raven Snowboard: Dragon 150cm 2011/2012 + Raven s550 Bindings
Raven SET: Board Breathe 150cm + Raven s250 Bindings
What do you lot think?
Cheers
From reading the tech sheets on those boards the RVN seems the most "do it all" board for your all mountain freestyle oriented rider. Directional Twin so sidecuts are equal tip and tail for easier switch riding but with a set back stance to make riding on pow easier especially as its a Rcoker. The Rocker profile makes it easier to ride and intiate turns but slightly more skittish in general. Would be fine for progressing in to freestyle if you wanted further down the line in or out the park.
The other boards are Directional boards and standard camber. So directional sidecut shape and a stance set back. More stable, but slightly different riding switch when compared to true twin.
It all depends on what you decide you want out of it. I wouldn't bother with the Breathe+S250. I had these on my Raven and very quickly out grew them. Not strong enough.
If I was choosing i would go with the RVN+s750 as its the most versatile for my style of riding. As i like all mountain freestyle and yes park too. Would prefer it slightly stiffer though for all mountain. (according to someones post previously)
The breathe is slightly stiffer than the Dragon apparently so make of that what you will. The dragon+s550 @£150 delivered sounds like a steal for a solid piste board. Cant say whether the upgrade to the s750 is worth it or not?
Ok, thats enough i think. Dont know if that helped. But ultimately its your choice. Dont think you can go wrong if you are in the market for a new bargain board and bindings. Although it would always be better to ride before you buy, and never write off a good second hand deal.
If you want pictures of any of the stuff you mention in the thread or details on any of the boards, pm me as I have a lounge full of them at the moment.
Will be getting posted on Monday so looking forward to my first board
Once received I don't mind posting up some pictures of the board and bindings.
I can't judge on quality wise or anything as I've only ever ridden the rental boards which we all know aren't the best of boards. So I'm not sure if the quality of this would match the quality of the rental boards.
Howie.
The biggest part of the new collection of the Raven and Pathron snowboards is available now.
You can check them at ravenboards.nl, the site is in Dutch but the description and specs of the boards are in English.
And here is a video of the production of these boards:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeIV42rKWII
Please don't compare Elan to Nobile. 50% of Elan production are "PU-Wood-Core" (it's 90% PU and 10% wood) boards for Decathlon, Intersport or Sport2000 and many of these boards can be found on eBay. Nobile concentrates only on tip-to-tail wood core boards and it can only be compared to GST.
Please let me know if you are going to organise some test. I will eagerly send you some boards for testing.
We are also introducing a new high-end brand Pathron (we will use all available technologies like honey-comb, kevlar, sintered bases) and the retail price should be under 180GBP. It will be available for testing in September.
Greetings from Poland
Marcin
Seriously? You really want to open up this can of worms? Do even know what most Intersport, Decathlon and Sport2000s sell? Most sold board at Decathlon over the last few years has been the Rossi One Mag built in Rossi's Spanish fab. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to find boards that don't use wood cores? Every rental board I've been proposed over the last three years has been full wood core.
Don't compare Nobile to Elan? I'd agree with that. I'd go with Elan 10 times out of 10 as they're a professional fab that don't use old Burton designs as some sort of weak marketing crutch. I would even go so far as to say that Elan has better facilities and process than GST, certainly feels that way when riding sticks out of those respective fabs.
Your website is terrible. No specs on anything (although seeing how all your product is at least a decade old I'm hardly surprised by this), ancient design, broken links, and no useful information on anything. Why even publish it? You're destined to live and die the life of an ebay vendor.
Why on earth would you even start a high-end brand when you can't establish a basic one? Any thoughts as to where you're laying the kevlar and honeycomb, or are you going to rip-off another big name?
You WILL NOT break into retail locations that matter (UK, Alpine, US) with your current line no matter what you offer. Even at 3:1 depot/vente I wouldn't stock your gear.
Good luck and send me a demo!
I have a good look at their WWW.PATHRON.COM website, and it is much improved.
Customer care/ Sales discussion was very good.
Seem to have all the modern refinements with regard to technology
Still of the same opinion ?
Seems to be to be a quality company endeavoring to get better and provide value.
That should be applauded.
Just feel I should comment on this topic which had been going strong now for a couple of years as its something I feel strongly about and have some (hopefully) valuable experience in....
I own a Raven Core with S380 bindings and a Pathron Sensei with S700 bindings. I have even reviewed them the last couple of seasons on my blog -
Review Raven Core

Review Pathron Sensei http://snowboardingholidays.net/gear/pathron-sensei-snowboard-review-freestyle-board-at-a-bargain-price/
To summarise I think the guys at Raven/Pathron make quality gear at low prices. I love the Sensei and would recommend it to anyone looking for a freestyle board that leans towards all mountain performance - I have even ridden it in deep pow and had fun.
I also really liked the Raven Core, although having moved onto the Sensei I felt the Core was more suited to beginner riders.
Having also tried to sets of bindings (S700 and S380) I can confirm I have had no problems and have found them comfy to ride. They do not feel as robust as something like the Burton Cartels but having never let me down I feel I can trust them.
For anyone put off by having not heard of Raven/Pathron remember that the reason you have heard of the big brands is partly due to the amount of advertising they do and endorsements with pro riders. All of this costs them money which you pay for when you buy the products. Pathron don't do much of either but they use pretty much the same materials and technology as the big brands but charge less than half the price.
The way I look at it is I can own 2 or 3 boards for the price of 1!
