I have just been on snow forcast as I am going on the Winter Bash and noticed it does not look great.

So I will be praying for you and me both!

For those who have been away when the conditions have been a little bit poor - rainy I suppose is what i mean - what can we expect the pistes to be like??? Does Morzine have snow cannons??? I know it is not a high altitude resort like Tignes... if there is no major snowfall between now and the bash, what will it be like ? packed ice or Grass!?

it always rains in morzine because its so bloody low. This time last year the slopes down to town were grass and still had cows on them. Was fine up in Avoriaz though.

Thats good to know... also Nicks comment on Avoriaz.

I have been away snowboarding 4 times in total, to Canada and France and been so so lucky every time in terms of weather as the snow has always been abundent and bluebird most days.

Heres hoping the OP has a good one and then us a week later.

Yes we have rain forecast for Wednesday but it is only going to be a few cm's. The good news is that the piste skiing in Avoriaz at the moment is really good and the slopes can handle a small rain shower and still be perfect, so don't worry. However, I'm still crossing my my fingers for snow because no one likes rain. You can see for your self exactly how the slopes are holding up at http://morzineweather.com through the video updates. Hope you have a wicked time.

Depending on what level you are at its raining different times. The top will get a light dusting of snow while at base level it will start raining on Wednesday night and continue through until early Friday.

Depends where you are staying but from
the main town it's about 40 minutes. Super M bubble which often has big old queues then a chair then the longest traverse along the longest green, have to stay on one edge for about 15 minutes, it's the green from snowboarder hell. Then up another chair into Avoriaz. Or you can get the bus up to the big old cable car which takes you strait there. But is quite away from town.

Just spoke to a mate who's in The Zine for the season, he said there isn't huge amounts of snow but it's all open down to the town. They are expecting rain in the town on Friday though.

Well I know it sucks when it rains in the mountains but for those who have already booked a holiday, like to the bash then there's really not point worrying as it not going to make any different and remember as Dale said - if the snow is sh1t, then we'll just make the best of it and just get wasted in the hot tub!

It rained for me in Zine last Feb all week but by the time you leave the super morzine up to Avoriaz it will be snowing like hell on the chairs.

There is plenty of snow in avoriaz, 92% of pistes open, only snow cross runs closed really.

Give yourself about an hour to get up the lifts from Morzine to Avoriaz and don't leave it too late coming down.

We left it until 5.25pm and had to ride some closed runs down and just got the last chair to catch the last super morzine bubble at 6.

I was in Morzine a few weeks ago for the first week of the season and had a few epic powder days. At the bottom of the main park in Avoriaz (from the highest chair lift) take the right and drop down under the tunnel and upto Col du Fornet I think it is, you'll have some fun up there on the off piste, and Chavanette just next to it.

For the guys going out this week - it may be rainy in Morzine for a few days but it will be fine and snowy up top - just pretend you are in whistler.

Last year we went out first week in January - before new year the Pleney was grass field with a line of man made ice - day before we flew out it puked it down and there was soft fluffy stuff everywhere.

Its January - it can be changeable in the Alps

I agree.. the first chair after super morzine goes over piste with awesome powder fields either side. worth a ride down at least once on your way up to avoriaz. It gets missed by some in the rush to the top.
