I'm getting my first iPhone in a couple of days as I have an iTouch and like it as it does everything I need, but also carry a old phone with me so going to put the two together and get the phone.

Anyway, I have a few but mostly games, underground map, Google stuff, but just wondering what apps people have and find useful.

I dont have too much majorly usefull stuff on mine that i use everyday. Here are some i have on mine.

Some usefull things for travel are
The North face - snow report - its kinda crap but just about works and its free.
Ski: Alps - route maps and GPS tracking - its not so usefull imo - interesting tho i guess.
The Weather Channel - Free, decent and fast weather info
Flight Track - live flight board tracking for all major airlines

Entertainment
Plants Vs Zombies - best game ever !
Need for Speed underground
Tony Hawks 2 - they ruined the soundtrack tho Sad
Touch grind - fun but limited and annoying

Random
iLite - usefull torch app - apparently saved some skiers lives this season, also has a lighter mode for festivals.
Flixster - free movie times and trailers etc.
Mpora - slow but usable mpora portal.

LiveScore - if your into sports. Great for football

Remote - Allows you to remotely control your iTunes on a PC or Laptop

Shazam - Tells you the name and artist of songs

TuneIn Radio - which is great if you have a wifi connection. Picks up thousands of internet radio stations

TapFish - totally pointless but entertaining. Don't let young kids near it though or they can run up a huge bill buying digital fish

Go here - http://iphone.tvcatchup.com and you can stream free live TV from loads of TV stations. Works best with wifi or strong 3G connections

There's also an app to set your sky+ box while your out and about

Yeah Shazam is class, takes you to the track in iTunes too...

Skype is good for when you get to Canada.

Ragdoll Blast is good fun as is flight control.

Bump is good if you know other people with iPhones so you can share stuff quite easily. Others I use quite a bit:

the trainline
tubemap
whatsapp - again great for when you are in canada...

The Hipstamatic camera app is pretty good for the ol' retro feel on your shots.

I've got Skype on my Touch so will get that on the phone.

There are some good ones on there.

I've got one that tells me what happened on this day in history, which is very interesting.

Flightcontrol - Addicting game/
Crush the Castle - Incredibly addictive
iMapMyRun - Excellent for tracking your runs and how far you go and draws a map of your run. Uploads to a website too.

Gorillacam - Better use of the camera.
HA Traffic - Decent traffic updates on all major roads.
Epicurious - Recipie book thats free and is a good way to impress the ladies or fellas with your cooking.
AroundMe - Pretty accurate way to find things like cash machines or petrol stations.

Anyone got a GPS that they rate?

Looked at MotionX GPS, but wondering what else is there.

For what purpose? It may not be what you need but put in "map my run" into the app store and get the free version, even if your not a runner it still tracks your journey very well.

I use Motion X, find it relly cluncky but has the kitchen sink, is why I kept it, I tried a few others. I also have Trails - GPS tracker but regret buying it as Motion X does the same features and a lot more on top.
