Ok I am really sad, something that everyone in SCUK tells me all the time Razz

Did a few experiments and worked out that facebook really hides most of your posts to your friends and hides what you can see from your friends.
Normally less than a dozen people see your posts.

So I had enough, first things firsts, delete all your facebook page likes and then all the "friends" you seen only once in your life, you don't get on with or don't talk to.

For a very long time I only post in twitter but for now I am going to use mostly twitter and pinterest and will use facebook only as a messaging platform.

Ok, this might be useful for some of you who haven't worked this out about facebook.

i now use Google Plus instead.

I unsubscribed from anyone who posted more than once a day on facebook, then if two sequential posts on my feed were yours I unfollow you. Now it's pretty much a place where I can contact people I care about and they can contact me, it's easier to open a new tab than start up skype and fish through a sea of names.

I get the latest updates from stuff I am interested in and don't get posts from people who think it's important to tell everyone how good lunch was and how much they are looking forward to the cinema and then 2 hours later how good some movie was and who you are going to the pub with. I haven't posted a status update since February and had to scroll through just 15 posts on my wall to get back that far, some people would still be in this weekend if they did that.

Use facebook how you want it and it's good.

Facebook doesnt hide your posts from friends. Unless people have removed your posts from their newsfeed then your posts will appear on their news feed page Confused

Yeah you can say which 'friends' you dont want to hear about in your news feed, and which ones you do want to hear about. Had a similar thing where some people just post constant carp all day but I didnt want to remove them completely, that setting sorted it out.

I left FB just after the bash ( nothing related to it, that was purely coincidence) i haven't been on since. I was fed up with so many people posting about kids. I get it kids are important, but not everybody wants to read about how funny your kid is because it poured beans on its head and just to make sure we really believe you they post a pic or other such crap. Granted there where only a handful of people doing it and unsubscribing would have solved it however these people needed telling so I posted a rather diva-esqe status informing them, which some mayhave read, and then left.

Pretty much the only thing I miss about FB is reading I fecking Love Science, From Quarks the Quasars and other science pages while having my breakfast and the snow porn pics I got from liking various pages. If it wasn't for the fact Have friends now living all round the world i would have deleted it entirely. Each to their own I guess though.

Im one of them people who hates conforming with the masses though so I hate the idea that people get paranoid about not checking it every 2 minutes and think their lives will end without it. Most of the people I speak to most are all in the same chat on Whatsapp and we chat most days on there

I can't edit for some reason, please excuse the poor spelling and grammar. I'm using my phone and I tend to type too quickly and make mistakes, and its too much hassle to check and correct it.

Personally I like FB. It's a great way to keep in contact and share thoughts, photos and other fun stuff. There seems to be a lot of FB haters on here and that's fine, no one's forcing you to use it!

Oh and Harry, sounds like you have way too much time on your hands!

my biggest personal problem was entirely my own fault. i had an inability to NOT say to no to friends requests, mainly from people i had met once, or had gone to school with. i ended up with over 500 friends. most of whom i wasnt remotely interested in. took me a long time to clear out the clutter and learn to control myself.

What planet are you on??

Have you noticed the most recent or most important option on your news feed? Check the wall of your friends you don't contact much, you will see they did tons of posts you never saw, even if you set your feed to most recent option.
Maybe you do it properly and only have a handful of friends, that would work.

200 club, max 200 people on your friend list.

Repeated food posts, baby posts, omg I go the gym posts. Deleted. No warnings, straight up delete. I got rid of 300 people and most didn't notice.

A mix of 3 bashes worth of people I met once, forum members I never met and didn't post anything all got chopped. About 3 people noticed.

I use it mainly for moaning, as my mrs doesn't want to hear it,boasting I have days off while people are in work and to organise rugby training sessions and squads for sat.

It is what you make it.

I doubt many facebook friends do either, It was the 3 rugby posts in 1 day that earned the unfollow anyways Razz
It's good to have a load of people who are easy to contact which is why I don't delete people but you don't have to put up with stuff that doesn't interest you.

Ditched facebook myself 6 months ago now after the ex-decided it would be a great idea to check everything I'd ever said publically over the 5 years I was on there to my female friends and then ask why I never said that about her Furious.

It also grew tiring seeing constant status updates about stuff I didn't care about. I also didn't like the fact they occasionally changed security settings so that your account would be slightly more public than you would like every so often.

Unsurprisingly I've not missed it since closing my account and feel a little bit happier not everyone can learn every little detail about my life from searching FB or running a google search.
If in doubt flat out.

I wouldn't so much say Im a FB hater persay. Its a good thing to keep in contact etc, I just think most people need a little restraining with what they put. I also dislike the security changes, but then again I never said anything either sensitive to me or things I wouldn't have said to someone's face if I was in front of them. I did like a good rant on there though and often got politics lol

Not everyone gives a crap about seeing posts, it's about keeping in touch with all your friends.

If you want to spread a message to everyone then send an e-mail.

Doing posts is what people do to keep in touch. So you might as well not bother with facebook then. Just use email like everyone used to.

I think the point is that there's so much crap on facebook, then it needs some sort of filter to make sense of it. If you subscribe to people then you see everything they post, if you ignore people then you see nothing they post. If you neither subscribe or ignore then you get the highlights.

Makes sense does it not?

I like the bit where you can organise events etc and keep everyone in the loop really easliy.

I like Dale's deleting style... mostly its a name and shame - very funny - I keep wanting to do it but I've not had the guts!

That's what I do. Tag in a post and delete. I don't mind people deleting me. Like cwj said, he didn't want 4 rugby posts in a morning but about 70% of my friends are rugby players so its swings and roundabouts.

I've got a fairly select group of friends on FB (about 120ish) and it makes me chuckle when I see these type of posts, as I generally think "oh, didn't realise I was 'friends' with you". It's gerally an attention seeking thing though, I feel, as if they want you to be all chuffed to bits & appreciative that you made the 'select few'. The day I reply "thanks" to one of them, will be the day I stop drawing breath....

No, text/phonecall/IM/e-mail is how you keep "in touch" which FB messenger is good for. A FB status post is just a conversation starter/cry for attention/shoutout in most cases.

IM sh1t is better for a conversation than e-mail ever was and most people are on FB whenever they are at a computer/on their phone so they don't need to open e-mails or install a different IM client.

how does that work? can you select followers or put them in a group that cant see tweets, or can you stop people from following tweets until they're "accepted"?
