Hiya,
I ordered some bits from bargainboards.co.uk earlier and followed the speel to get the discount and got this reply a bit ago (which surprised me for gone 8pm on a Sunday night):

Quote:
Thankyou for placing your order.

For us to be able to process your discount/refund, please could you send me a scanned copy of your current SCUK membership card.

You can do this using this messaging system, selecting 'Clubs & Associations' as the subject and attaching the file.

Thankyou for your co-operation and sorry for the hassle.

Fair enough, it's a bit of a pain in the ar5e but, at least they were polite and discount is discount. Figured I'd post it up so the discount page can be updated and people aware.

Also it would appear that "sale items" actually means anything that's showing any sort of a saving on the site...so pretty much everything.

Ah well.

bargainboards.co.uk is a stock clearence website that sells all the old stock of http://www.absolute-snow.co.uk/, I assume that's why everything is technically on sale.

I'm sure they'd probably still apply the discount at the other website though because it's the same company

I'll update the discount section, it may become more common for companies to ask to see evidence of a SCUK card, don't want the discount being abused now do we! I know its a pain, but as you said discount is discount!

Bargain Boards are a stock clearance site and yes you do get the discount at absolute snow as well. I was aware that the chances of receiving the discount on Bargain boards was slim but there are still some items not discounted so thought it was worth trying to pass on some discount!

Cheers

Not complaining - ok maybe a little lol - just wanted to make people aware, because they won't find out until after they've paid. The card thing is no biggy, I've got it scanned now.

Totally valid point, unfortunate that the discount is redeemed after so you don't actually find out till after you've paid! I've made the text about discount only being available on non sale items bold so its a bit clearer, hopefully this will help.
Cheers.

Take a picture of it, I'm sure that would be enough for them.

I had to do booking a maverix course once.
I've you've ever riden Cairngorm please show your support for the revival of the Ciste and West Wall chairlifts. I'm sure you'll agree they need saving.

We're going to to make a system where partners can check you're a member as part of SCUK2. Perhaps not straight away, but it will be something like if you give them your membership number, we'll show them your initials, plus the second part of your postcode for verification.

So for me, they'd enter member number "1" and it would reply with "DW/8DD". That would allow them to see they're shipping to person and the address you're registered with, without providing them with any real personal/useful data they could use for anything else.

Yes, I'm making this up as I go along!

And a year later I've just ordered from Absolute Snow and not in a sale...but the Impact Shorts aren't being sold at RRP so they don't qualify for discount.

This sucks, it would probably be quicker and easier for AS/BB to list all the things, if any, that do qualify for SCUK discount as people could be expecting to save 10% and factor it in to the price, pay and then find out afterwards that the price they see is the price they have to pay.

I was looking at a NS Proto CT on there, but I'll look elsewhere now as I don't want to take the risk of having to pay an extra £52 I could have saved by purchasing it somewhere else with a usable and straightforward discount, which shows the price I'll be paying before purchase.

And yes this time I am complaining.

Get it from Born Extreme instead. Great store, great people, always on this forum offering totally impartial advice, and to top it off they give us 15% discount and its free shipping.

It's a bit annoying I"ll agree, but I've been into Bargain boards a couple of times in about a week and they've been really helpful and friendly. You can see which products on their site aren't being sold at RRP as they list the RRP price and then 'our price' underneath it. Others that are being sold at full price just have the one amount listed - like the NS Proto CT.

It is a very odd way of doing things tho as they have full price, 'our price' and sale prices as well, so you're never quite sure what you can and can't get a discount on. Don't really see why they can't use a similar online system to everyone else and just have a code to enter at checkout.

Was my first port of call mate, but he's totally sold out of the size I want. He is however letting me take the demo he's got in for a spin.

CJ, don't get me wrong they're always friendly and their turn around for shipping stuff is rapid. But I just feel that the whole discount thing is a waste of time. The vast majority of the time nothing most of us buy, especially online, is actually sold at RRP. That's business. Just like offering a discount is a great form of, cheap, advertising as it brings in additional business that may have gone else where otherwise.

Lots of SCUK members buy from BargainBoards and get a SCUK discount. We like to see a copy of your membership card otherwise we could just be handing out discount to anyone. Once you have sent us an image of your card, we have it on file for future purchases so you only need to do it once. If you do not have a scanner, a photo would be fine. It will be much easier when SCUK introduce their membership verification programme.

All new season gear (and we have lots of it on both BargainBoards and Absolute Snow) qualifies for our SCUK discount plus everything else not already discounted also qualifies. We have over 14,000 different products to choose from and, especially at this time of year as we enter the new season, an increasing proportion qualifies for the SCUK discount. Sure, some of our stock clearance products do not qualify because they have big discounts on them already. Which ever way you look at it, our prices should be unbeatable whether or not a SCUK discount is applied. If someone can find a cheaper deal elsewhere (with or without any SCUK discount), we will always price match and include a free gift with the customer’s order. Our policy is to offer the best possible value at all times.
Many products on our website are sold at or close to our cost price so it is not possible for us to offer SCUK members additional discounts on everything. If, however, SCUK members make a purchase from us they will receive special offers and promotions only made available to our loyal customer base. We do this as a reward and thankyou for shopping with us.
