Ermm yes they have, Dunx has reponded, and he is Mr SCUK.

You're very patronising arent you. Its very partonsing for you to say people are short sighted just for not agreeing with you. Its not a case of listening to the cumstomers or not, the customers were quite happy with what they had, no one was told they would be getting a new site and it was never a selling point. No one was ever told, join this site and you will get a different site to use by x date were they. That was never a promise and no one joined because there might possibly be an updated site one day. It was simply mentioned that one day soon it would be updated. Dunx is in the process of updating the site and will release the new one when its ready, thousands of people use this site and more are paid members ...but only about 4 of them have said theyre not happy with the new one not appearing yet.

If you paid for this years model of a snowboard would you then say it was short sighted and bad business for Burton not to send you next years model 2 months later?

Plus you havent a clue where the admit cost goes have you, and quite frankly its none of your business, just like it none of your business where the money you pay for your snowboard goes?

You mean like... having the limitations of a snowboarding insurance policy tailored by the users of the forum?

http://www.snowboardclub.co.uk/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-t-45361-postdays-0-pos...

Or a brand new indoor slope offering us a 55% discount due to good relations between one of the directors and Hemel slope?

http://www.snowboardclub.co.uk/slopes-hemeli.html

The reason membership is £15 rather than the once previous £30 is because it was recognised users benefited more from our connections/discounts rather than a few freebies, so lowering the price offered more to what members wanted

Short sighted posting from an obviously non businessman.

Again a poor response of someone jumping in two footed. No-one had responded from SCUK. I was refering to posts by Nickmotture and Charlie that said it was up to Dunx whether it was updated and no-one else and about the admin costs for the membership.

You mean, "poor response as they don't agree with my almighty opinion"

Neither Nick or Charlie said it was up to Dunx only, yes there are other directors of SCUK, however Dunx is the one who interacts most with the forum and site, thus is best to comment on potential upgrades -- Which is what Charlie said

Perhaps read the replies before posting? :S

Good luck to the company of the 'business environment' you work in if you're just going to ignore the input of people who are a large and frequent part of this organisation [Being the tea boy for IBM doesn't count by the way...]

Poor reponse as in you haven't the intelligence to figure out I wasn't refering to the business acumen of the Snowboard Club Directors, which they have a lot of.

I refer you to Nick's post...

"You do realise that this site is just a sideline and that he has a proper full time job to do dont you?

If the new site comes along then great, if it doenst then thats up to him and no one else."

Does that not infer it's Dunx decision and no-one else, i.e no member of Snowboard Club? If a business didn't listen to it's customers then they would simply walk away.

Again though, this is a forum like any other with pages to read and a box in which to type a reply or post a new topic. On that front it works like any other and I have no qualms. I just don't understand those who question why people shouldn't pose the question of an upgrade (if a geek sees fit).

Seriously, why do people feel the need to get personal over these things. There's no problem with disagreeing but eventually you just need to accept that people have different opinions and move on.

This women has started patronising people simply because they dont agree with her therefore she deserves to be criticised. If she can dish the partonising comments out and call people she doenst know unintelligent then she can take some comments back.

An eye for an eye and all that ;)

If you think that then you're entitled to your own opinion. I was only saying from a business perspective you shouldn't brush people's opinions under the carpet and should listen. However it seems people just want to jump down anyone's throat who doesn't conform to the norm.

I play for a football club. It is run by it's members. SCUK is slightly different in that it is a limited company (accounts available at Companies House), but surely it should listen to it's members voices, even if they are in the minority.

This is all by the by. Dunx has said a new build is on it's way, it just may take a little time.

Edit: Sorry it it sounds patronising, but it's annoying when people don't read your posts correctly and then hunt you down.

Why do you mean by listen to its members exactly, you mean one person who said he wasnt happy that he wasn't getting something he was never promised anyway?

Errm Hi. Cool

Enquiring when the update will be coming out is fine but some people seem to be actauly getting annoyed its not come out as if they only joined scuk because a new site would be imminent and that they some how feel cheated that they have to make do with the old one, the one that was in existence when they joined.

Also the implication that people will leave if a new better site doenst appear is ludicrous. For a start you dont have to be a member to use the site and new site or old one the discount and benefits you pay for are the same. Hell about 90% of people who are paid up members dont even use the website. Its been the same for the last 6 years, there is always a core of about 30 odd people who use the forum regularly but lets not forget that there are also thousands of non posting members. The club is much bigger than those 30 or so people and most of the time and money goes on bigger things than updating a perfectly good forum that a very small percentage of members actualy use.

Also leave and go where, there is no other snowboard club that gives discounts for its members?

Dunx even admitted that the forum was the shop window to drive more membership.

Not sure what SCUK2 (or SCUK2011) will bring, but imagine SCUK was a mini dealership, it would get more traffic and membership if it had a new Mini blah blah blah in the window rather than a 1970's Mini One.

We're all wanting the same thing, a prosperous, thriving SCUK.

OK, Petra, I don't wanna be rude or anything here coz of course we are all entitled to our own views but two things..

1- you go on about how it's vital to listen to customers and give them what they want, and yes, in the general business sense that is true. But what Nick is trying to get across is that had Dunx not said anything about SCUK2 there wouldn’t be any questions on when it’s coming. There don’t appear to be many complaint about the site/forum in general, and scuk2 will only improve the site/forum (hopefully) and we’ve been informed it will happen when it happens .. oh and that one in a million customer who didn’t get their voice heard isn’t likely to make the company come tumbling down.. I asked McDonalds once to start making McFeast burgers -only do them in Sweden (and NZ i think) but no to my dismay, the Luton MaccyDs still won’t make them for me.. but hey the company seems to be running fine... just seems to me that you are thinking too much into this whole if customers need to be heard thing. In relation to SCUK2, I just don’t think it’s an issue.

2- you have repeated yourself a number of time about how you work “in business” so you reckon you are fit to comment, well I have a business studies degree, does that immediate mean I am the keeper of all “BUSINESS” knowledge? Does what I say go? You’d probably be surprised but we are not all just skibums who drink and ride all day... but none of us are using that in our posts as a “weapon”

Does anyone else thing the scuk world will end if we don’t get SCUK 2 soon? Rolling Eyes

I realllllly want a new Mini!

...and would prefer the old scuk back, back when the arguments were funny to read. Now they're just boring.

I am not a proper member though so shall not get into this.

no.... but i think it will kill itself if the constant fights aren't quashed.

there has always been conflict on the forum, lots of it in hindsight was very funny, but it's not the small clique it once was and as with snowboarding as a whole more opinions are getting sprouted around, and there are more people in our pass time, that we wouldn't want to have a beer with, let alone waste our precious riding time with.

on the site front, the biggest thing that is missing that would tie the site together is interaction with the news, the ability to comment, criteque or just plain laugh at news items, and subsequently share them using FB/twitter etc is something missing, that nearly every other site has these days.

other than that, mobile device friendly is important, trying to answer PM's on my phone is a real ball ache.

but if it doesn't happen....who cares, it's only snowboarding..it was just meant to be fun!!

I really have never understood this. Why are people so obsessed with sharing everything they see, hear and do of Facebook and Twitter!?? It really grinds my gears (yes I was watching Family Guy last night Smile ) when I'm on a website and that bloody facebook/twitter sharing box thing pops up and trys to get me to share what I'm doing! Aaaarrrghhhh!

Ok, so rant over.

As for phone compatibility, it seems to work okay for me but would be nice to have some way of ensuring the 'new posts since last visit' list is saved until you specifically delete it so that you don't lose them if you access the forum from 2-3 diferent sources.

sharing news, edits, park plans comps, reviews etc, it's part of being in the uk snowboarding community, people i ride with, travel with, share info with are real and/or fb friends, not all of them read scuk so it's a way of pimping an article they haven't seen (like the new weston snowdome which is only 40 minutes up the road from me that i posted a FB link this morning)

okay you can put a link in by going into fb and adding it, and i'm not talking about a pop up, just a share box on the bottom of each news post.

mpora based sites comments are also the FB comments, which i think is a step to far, but it would be great for the news to be more 'community driven' so that we can discuss and add thoughts feedback and comments without having to start a new thread

only my opinion....only been here for 2 minutes

mpora based sites comments are also the FB comments, which i think is a step to far, but it would be great for the news to be more 'community driven' so that we can discuss and add thoughts feedback and comments without having to start a new thread

only my opinion....only been here for 2 minutes

That's pretty much my opinion too. Of course every SCUK news item goes straight to our FB page (and Twitter) automatically, so if you Like SCUK on FB, you'll see them there anyway. A few people comment direct, but it's not currently a big part of the site. There's also many people who can't get to FB from work... myself included!
