![]() Xscapeology
A new look Xscapeology event with live acts and new park features.
Right, let's get the negatives out of the way first. All the promised features were not in place and there was certainly no big kicker. There was hardly anybody there - 30 or 40 tops, but it actual fact, I had the best time I've had at MK in a long while. The snow was fairly fast, although still sugar snow, but it didn't really cause too may problems with frequest application of Notwax and the slope set up was fine. There was a single bar rainbow, followed by the rollercoaster "Woo Waa". To the side was a small wooden kicker set just right on the slope and having an okay landing. Then there was a single bar down-flat-down. Towards the bottom of the slope was the Pink Pussy - the pink Jag with the square section flat-down-down to drop. Beyond that was a tiny little snow kicker that was pretty much destroyed by the end of the night, but great for beginners just getting their wings. At the bottom of the slope there was a single bar C rail that was a bit of a task and only managed by one or two. On the other slope was the halfpipe, but they've started to take that down slowly. More of that later. Our MC for the evening was Rob Needham, the grandfather of the UK dryslopes and not the first person you'd expect to see at Xscape. But he seems to be resident MC and is head over heels about the halfpipe. He kept us all amused and dished out the prizes at each hit during two jam sessions held throughout the evening. Most of the prizes were going to the local ATV crew, plus the likes of Andy Rivers and Lucy Passmore, but in the end most people probably walked away with something, so thanks to all the prizes sponsors who made that possible. Now... that halfpipe. I were there for the Gonzo on Snow event, but missed the opening. In fact I've never ridden it before. In actual fact, I've never really ridden a pipe before, except on that odd occasion in resort when nobody was looking. As the place was pretty deserted, I thought I'd give it a bash, forgetting of course that the bar overlooks it and there was probably a few people that had a chuckle at my first few attempts. We've heard some good and bad stories about the pipe. Xscape had made a real effort and instead of redoing the whole pipe, had concentrated on four hits on the way down, which were in tip-top condition for much of the night. My saviour came in the form of Rob Needham, who is two years my senior and really should know better. His advice was simple : "go faster, do not turn, speed is your friend". By the end of the night, I was getting out of the pipe on the frontside wall and maintaining some decent speed all the way down. In fact, I won a prize. Okay, it was only a T shirt, but it is the first thing I've even won snowboarding, so claimed that for all it was worth. Hoo-bloody-rah. As Rob put it. "C'mon there's a halfpipe over here!". Get yourself over to Milton Keynes and give that a go before it's gone. I'll certainly be back soon for more and I'm already looking forward to the next Xscapeology. Oh yeah. There was some music too, but that's not what we're about. Having said that, it was pumped out onto the slope and wasn't half bad. Neither were the on slope burgers for that matter. All they need is an on slope bar next time and it'll be sorted. The Xscapeology event page can be administered by dunx (Dunx), stu (Stu Brass), spencer (Spencer Claridge) and office (Office).
