![]() Xscapeology IV
More breaks, beats and boarding at Xscape.
Xscapeology was the fourth such outing for Xscape Milton Keynes. The first two were simply the best nights ever put on at Milton Keynes. The third I missed, but by all accounts wasn't so good. I went home early on Friday. As usual the off slope activity was manic, with the beats being thrown down plus all the usual breaks we've come to expect. This of course made it impossible for boarders to actually get to the bar. In fact the actual riders were basically neglected for the evening and the regulars said the slope setup the previous Friday had been better, with an additional small kicker and picnic bench (which has since moved to the staff room rumour has it). So what did they have? A single flat down built up on what should have been the kicker had the mound been built in the right place. A cheese wedge kicker with no landing. A flat low rail. The Burton Black Metal flat-down-flat-down four bar rail and the C rail. Nothing on the other slope. The snow was terrible, although again the regulars say it's been worse of late. The stuff is like powder and I don't mean the stuff we all dream of, more like the polystyrene balls they put in bean bags these days. You could sink up to your knee in some places. The stuff was slow, you couldn't get an edge. They don't seem to be letting the piste develop, instead they're churning the surface everyday with the piste basher. So what did they do right on the slope? There was actually a DJ on the slope. Nice if you like Drum and Base, but not my bag. They were giving away Xscape 2004 beanies. I didn't want one. There was some good riding. Chris Chat was giving it some and it's great to see him back representing his local slope. Lucy Passmore was giving the rails some, but went home early to prepare for the VZ Trials the next day (which she won). Len was riding the rails like a Pro. He has a fantastic style for a guy in his 50s. A goodly selection of the Forum were there and the friendly banter made the evening a passable social event, but a good evening's snowboarding it was not. Shame. I hadn't been for a while and I don't think I'll be going back for another while.
