 Westbeach Freezer Jam
The event will be a whole afternoon of chilled riding with the promise of the whole slope being given over to the competition allowing us to build a full park.
JUDGE TOM PERCIVAL DESCRIBES THE WESTBEACH FREEZER JAM AT CHILL FACTORE, 15TH NOVEMBER 2008 The 15th November 2008 saw the first ever Westbeach Freezer Jam; held at Chill Factore in Manchester. Ninety competitors took to the best park that Chill has ever seen. The Freezer Jam was the brainchild of Sue Garlick, Team manager for Westbeach, and is set to become an annual event with the hope of developing it into a series over the coming years. After a good long warm up the comp kicked off with the qualifiers, both the skiers and riders were throwing some insane tricks! 18 riders went through to the final and these were the riders who had been strongest throughout the qualifiers. For the snowboarders Jonny Russell was slaying every rail in sight , Col Mytton was throwing back 7s, switch back 5s and the occasional front rodeo 5, Andy Nudds (board-a-tron), who was my personal favourite with some super clean frontside boards and tail 270 out not to mention his super big, clean front 7s! The skiers were retaliating with Tyler Hardingʼs balls out 7s, Charlie Smith is so good on rails I couldnʼt even work out what half the tricks were there were that many variations, but for me Jo Tomlinson had the kicker dialed. It was a crazy final with Jo Tomlinson and Charlie Smith dueling for first place. Charlie just edged in front to 1st place winning a weeks stay at Chill Chalet, France and £150. Jo placed second with Tyler Harding in third. The snowboard final was the best final I have ever seen with Andy Nudds winning the menʼs over 16ʼs and placing second in the overall category just behind Col Mytton who was on fire, you have to be good to put a super clean rail run together and finish with a switch back 9 landed clean on the flat! Col took away a holiday to Red resort, Canada and £150! The third overall spot was a surprise for most but not to her Westbeach teammates, after some kick ass riding from the girls Laura Berry once again showed she is back with a vengance! Capita and Union Rider Joni Makinen, the Finnish International pro took the time to fly over to have a few powder slashes with the riders and also give out the Capita best unsponsored prize of a Grafʼd Capita board to Greg Stevens. Sam Pinder took the TSA best unsponsored girl winning an Omatic board all for very own! There were so many good riders with so many good tricks that the whole day was a pleasure to judge and watch, with Dom Harington on the decks, Corona flowing at the bar and some amazing prizes up for grabs, I canʼt wait for next year! Bring it on!!! Thanks to; Red Resort, Chill Chalet, Skull Candy, TSA, Capita, Union, Coal and the Riders Lounge, Smith, Snowfinder, Bawbags, Corona, Monster, Chill Factore, Ignite, Amplid, Gone Boarding and everyone who helped make the event happen! THE JAM WAS ALL OVER THE FLOOR… The Westbeach Freezer Jam went off! A whole afternoon and evening of riders and skiers pushing it beyond the realms of the indoor slope… going boldly where no human has gone before… well they have, just not in such an epic stylee… With upwards of 90 competitors, the competition was tough and everyone rode and skied hard… Col Mytton took overall 1st place snowboarder of the day winning the Red Resort stay and ride prize along with £150 with Charlie Smith taking 1st place for the skiers, bagging a weeks stay at Chill Chalet in France and £150 to boot.
