![]() SCUK Winter Bash
![]() Another week with the Dragon Lodge in Tignes. Places going fast!
LinksOn The Forum:Previous Winter Bashes: Following the huge success of last year we’d be barking mad to ignore the popularity of Tignes and so the mighty SCUK Winter Bash will once again be hooking up with our friends and yours at the new Dragon Lodge to offer the snowboarding holiday of the year! If you’re new to the Winter Bash, how best to describe it?... well, there’s a strong feeling of community, a lot of snowboarding, a heap of guiding, a belly of laughter, a smattering of immaturity and a bout of drinking which on occasion has been laced with a touch of nudity. It’s a memorable and unique experience and one that hundreds of folk feel is well worth having over and over again. So whoever you are, you’re all very welcome. Bashers will again have the deluxe ‘pimped-up’ chalet option in addition to the comfortable and more affordable apartments. Prices start from a very reasonable £335 for 7 nights accommodation, 6 day full Espace lift pass and the infamous Bash entertainment. SCUK members will naturally receive our ‘mate’s rate’ discount, but all-comers are welcome. We also greet Under 18s into the fold, however we cannot take legal responsibility for you and you should be accompanied by a responsible(ish) adult. ![]() SCUK Pub Quiz 2009 © Charlie Eddington PackagesWe have two options for you: the WB10 Chalet option or the WB10 Apartment option. The prices shown here are based on the current exchange rate and the price of some items may go up or down at the time of booking for some items. Prices shown are for SCUK members. Non-members are more than welcome, but you'll avoid the £30 non-member surcharge if you join for just £15... so er... All packages include:
WB10 Dragon Lodge at £495The new Dragon Lodge is in the heart of Tignes Le Lac and offers shared accommodation in a relaxed chalet setting. Half board includes breakfast, afternoon tea and cake, plus a three course evening meal with wine on four evenings, plus the included Welcome Meal, so there's one evening where you have to find your own grub in resort. Additionally, bed linen is included and free use of all the Dragon Lodge facilities:
WB10 Apartment at £335Apartments will mostly be 4 person studio apartments with the possibility of some 5 or 6 person and even 8 person apartments available on request. All will be based in Tignes Le Lac and within 5 minutes walk of Dragon Lodge, each other, the slopes and lifts, all the shops, bars, restaurants, etc. All apartments will have shower and WC, a kitchenette with all the equipment needed to self cater and will include bed linen.Layout wise, they are all different but as a general idea:
A damage deposit of €25 per person is required for apartments, which is payable on arrival. Apartments and rooms in Dragon Lodge can be booked as a group of mates sharing, but also for individuals who will be grouped with like minded SCUKers! Package Extras
We know some SCUK members will already be in Tignes or nearby and they are welcome to join us for the SCUK Pub Quiz if space allows, for a small charge of €10. ![]() Guiding is good © DunxIf you're after freestyle coaching, Alliance Snowboard School are top dogs in Tignes and already a SCUK partner, so you'll get a discount. The 7 or 8 day Espace upgrades are available for those getting in early and leaving late by train, because you can effectively get a full day's riding in on both the day of arrival and departure. The SCUK Pub QuizFree entry to the SCUK Summer Bash 2010 The Pub Quiz is the highlight of the week's evening activities. With the winners from the last two years unlikely to attend due to impending fatherhood, the crown is up for grabs. As well as the usual glory for the winners, there's some tasty goody bags and this year something a little extra special with our Summer Bash partners at Tamworth SnowDome generously offering the winners free entry to the slopes for the Summer Bash 2010*.*This prize has no cash alternative and is not transferable! ![]() Pray for more great snow! © Dunx BookingBooking is now closed! John from Dragon Lodge is taking bookings for both the chalet and apartment options. He'll take the booking and discuss extras to build up your individual package. You need to pay a £100 deposit on booking. The balance is due by 1st December 2009. An extra week? Many are talking about an extra week in Tignes this year to save money on travel. Ask John for details, but rather than just the normal 10% off you would normally get as a SCUK member at Dragon Lodge, John will do you a special deal of 15%+ off, whether it's the week before or after the SCUK Bash, although transfer prices may differ. Other destinations are possible to get you to Tignes, but we will only be arranging transfers from Geneva. Try Jet2.com, Easyjet, Snowjet, Flybe, BMI baby, British Airways and Ryan Air. TrainLondon to Bourg St. Maurice. BSM is 40 minutes from Tignes. Try www.raileurope.co.uk or www.eurostar.com. Get the right trains and you can benefit from an extra two days in resort, hence the lift pass upgrades listed above. DrivingIf you fill your car, this is probably the cheapest and most environmentally friendly option. Everybody loves a road trip! Use www.viamichelin.com to plan your route. From Calais to Tignes is 9.5 hours at normal speeds and will cost around €150 in fuel and tolls. Ferry costs need to be figured in too of course. See SCUK Bash Forum: WB10 - By Car for discussion on driving. ![]() We love to do the snowboarding © Charlie Eddington TransfersTransfers are always a pain and are always expensive to resorts like Tignes. To/From Bourg St. Maurice These are easy and the Dragon Lodge minibus will be outside the station when the train arrives Saturday morning and will take people back to the station the following Saturday afternoon. This does mean you can get an extra two days riding in. To/From Geneva We will be organising transfers from Geneva airport only. There will be two official coach transfers inbound and two official coach transfers outbound, so please try to organise your flights accordingly: Inbound: Coach 1: 12noon/1pm approx Outbound: Coach 3: Departing 5/6 am approx (for flights from 09:30 to 1 pm) We will try to lay on additional minibus transfers if there is sufficient demand before or after these times. However, people may be subject to an additional surcharge for transfers if there isn't the demand. If you need to make alternative transfer arrangements, then SCUK's travel discount partners can be viewed here. Transfers will normally cost you between £80 and £104 from Geneva. ![]() Guide Glenn knee deep © Dunx ScheduleThe SCUK Winter Bash is just an organised week away with a large group of mates who you might not have met yet! We hate to use the word "schedule", but this will just give you an idea of what the SCUK Crew have planned for you. Naturally, what you do is up to you and we hope to change the "schedule" at the last minute just to keep you on your toes.
ResortTignes is very snowboard friendly; long before the other French resorts welcomed snowboarders, Tignes opened its arms wide and said, "come here and slide down that, jump over that, and listen to this while you're at it". If Carlsberg made snowboard resorts, they would have made Tignes!Set at 2100 meters and part of the 290km of pistes that is the Espace Killy, it has a very good snow record, a glacier, a lake and a lot of varying terrain; Tignes can almost guarantee everyone leaves satisfied. You drive up to the resort on the same road towards Val D’Isere from Bourg Saint Maurice, accessible by Eurostar and the snow train. A painting of Hercules holding back the water greets you as you cross over the high dam, and as you pass a church on your right you can see Jesus, who has freed his arms from the crucifix and now points towards the old submerged village. Eerie, man, eerie. ![]() Tignes is big enough for you sonny!
