Hold tight. It’s BIG, it’s BACK and it’s LIVE! The fabled "SCUK Winter Bash" gets set to take the largest motley crew of snowboarding fanatics to terrorize arguably the most famous Alpine resort of Tignes in France.

Details

The SCUK Winter Bash has teamed up with the legendary Dragon Lodge crew to guarantee Bashers a deluxe chalet option in addition to the comfortable and more affordable apartments. Prices start from a very reasonable £299 for 7 nights accommodation, 6 day lift pass and the infamous Bash entertainment.

For those new to the Winter Bash, it’s a coming together of kindred spirits on a pilgrimage to worship the lofty Snow Gods and the mighty Mutzig! The week is filled with guiding, freestyle coaching, communal spirit, jovial banter and THE pub quiz, all set to the backdrop of hearty laughter.

Member, non-member, pro, newbie, rich, poor, black, white, even you Welsh! It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you’re from, all we ask is that you come with an open mind, a smile on your face and have a healthy disposition for sh1ts and giggles.... Good God, we’ve made it sound like a swingers do!

We've had several skiers enquire whether they can come. Of course, of course, you're more than welcome. I think we've had skiers (and even a blader) at previous Winter Bashes. However, we will still point and laugh at any jester hats.

Latest...

John is sending out schedules and transfer details by email today, 16th January. The schedule is also posted on on the forum.

We have 89 people coming. We can't wait!

Lessons – Alliance Coaching 3 hrs€40

Alliance Snowboard School are top dogs in Tignes and already a SCUK partner. On Wednesday they have sorted us a deal out, €40 euros for a 3 hour Freeride coaching Session (9-12noon), €40 euros for a 3 hour Freestyle coaching session (1-4pm). Prices are based on a minimum of 4 people. Please book this direct with Neil @Alliance, and feel free to enquire about more coaching sessions if you require.

Perceived wisdom is that the Espace upgrade is a no-brainer for people who can snowboard and who want to get the most from the week. The 7 or 8 day Tignes/Espace upgrades are available for those getting in early and leaving late by train, because you can effectively get a full day's riding in on both the day of arrival and departure.

Booking

Booking closed for WB09 on 1st December.
Any outstanding payments are now due.

John from Dragon Lodge is taking bookings for both the chalet and apartment options. He'll take the booking and discuss extras to build up your individual package.

You need to pay a £100 deposit on booking. The balance is due eight weeks before arrival, which falls nicely just after pay day on 1st December 2008.

Visit www.dragonlodge.com and click on "Booking". In the "Any other queries?" box, state either "SCUK WB09 Chalet" or "SCUK WB09 Apartment", plus any package options. Please state whether you're a SCUK member or not. John will provide a price.

Alternatively, email John direct and tell him what you're after.

Once you're booked, whack your name up on the WB09 - Who's Booked? forum thread.

En Route to WB08

Travel

Flights

Geneva is the destination of choice and is 2½ hours from Tignes. Other destinations are possible to get you to Tignes, but we will only be arranging transfers from Geneva.

Try Jet2.com, Easyjet, Snowjet, Flybe, BMI baby, British Airways and Ryan Air.

See SCUK Bash Forum: WB09 - Flights & Transfers for discussion on flights and transfers.

Train

London to Bourg St. Maurice. BSM is 40 minutes from Tignes.

Try www.raileurope.co.uk or www.eurostar.com.

Get the right trains and you can benefit from an extra two days in resort, hence the lift pass upgrades listed above.

See SCUK Bash Forum: WB09 - Train & Transfers for more details on prices and discussion.

Driving

If you fill your car, this is probably the cheapest and most environmentally friendly option. Everybody loves a road trip!

Use www.viamichelin.com to plan your route. From Calais to Tignes is 9.5 hours at normal speeds and will cost around €150 in fuel and tolls. Ferry costs need to be figured in too of course.

See SCUK Bash Forum: WB09 - By Car for discussion on driving.

Transfers To Resort

Transfers from Geneva and Bourg St. Maurice can be arranged through Dragon Lodge.

See SCUK Bash Forum: WB09 - Flights & Transfers for discussion on transfers from airports and SCUK Bash Forum: WB09 - Train & Transfers for more details on transfers from the train station.

Transfers will be organised by Dragon Lodge when they know people's travel details. The current plan is for three Geneva transfers : morning, lunchtime and afternoon, but this will all depend on demand. The basic idea is everyone can get the best flights in from wherever they are and pick up a transfer without having to wait more than an hour or 2 max. So just let John know the best flight times you can get an he'll arrange the transfers for you all around them. Try to avoid arriving really late on Saturday (after 7pm) or super early (before 9:30 am) as we may not be able to guarantee transfers for these times for the quoted price. The Bourg St. Maurice transfers will be timed to coincide with the two train arrivals. If in doubt ask John.

If you need alternative transfers organised, then SCUK's travel discount partners can be viewed here.

Schedule

The SCUK Winter Bash is just an organised week away with a large group of mates who you might not have met yet! Resort

Tignes is very snowboard friendly; long before the other French resorts welcomed snowboarders, Tignes opened its arms wide and said, "come here and slide down that, jump over that, and listen to this while you're at it". If Carlsberg made snowboard resorts, they would have made Tignes!

Set at 2100 meters and part of the 290km of pistes that is the Espace Killy, it has a very good snow record, a glacier, a lake and a lot of varying terrain; Tignes can almost guarantee everyone leaves satisfied. You drive up to the resort on the same road towards Val D’Isere from Bourg Saint Maurice, accessible by Eurostar and the snow train. A painting of Hercules holding back the water greets you as you cross over the high dam, and as you pass a church on your right you can see Jesus, who has freed his arms from the crucifix and now points towards the old submerged village. Eerie, man, eerie.

Tignes is big enough for you sonny!
