On The Hill![]() Still overlooked by most Americans (though certainly not by the Brits), Les Deux Alpes is among Europe’s largest and busiest ski resorts, in winter and summer. Lifts rise from the village on either side, but the bulk of the terrain sprawls eastward on successive peaks that ultimately lead to the glaciers, which peak on the Dome de la Girose which stands at close to 12,000 feet. With 63% of the terrain aimed at beginners and intermediates, there is plenty to play on whatever your standard, and more advanced riders can find the goods either in one of the two famous parks or the steep and deep of La Grave.. With 21 dreaded draglifts, 26 chairlifts and 6 cable cars, Deux Alpes has an uplift of capacity of 66,000 people per hour. Plenty of room for us and the Frogs. Everybody is invited along, whether you're a SCUK Member or not, so come and join us for as much fun as you can handle. We just want to see you there. Resort![]() Though it’s one of Europe’s oldest lift-served ski destinations (second only to Chamonix, France), it’s a modern, auto-friendly resort, with some 35,000 beds and innumerable shops and restaurants. One of the most entertainment-packed resorts in the world, if you can get bored here, you're obviously suffering from ADHD and we'd suggest you try taking some Ritalin. We'll be at the front line of this entertainment onslaught, so pack some Pro-plus (Red Bull optional). The resort has a cinema, bowling alley, gym, sports centre, swimming pool, sauna, ice rink and walking trails. There are over 50 restaurants if you decide to go self-catering, and of the 31 bars, some of the most popular watering holes include The Irish Bar, Pub Le Windsor, Smokey Joe's, The Secret, Smithy's, and Le Pressoir. L'Opéra is the recommended nightclub, but L'Avalanche and La Casa also have a strong following. And of course, we'll be able to get some beers in at La Grotte Du Yeti. Room allocationsThe room allocations are in the forum. Because of some "booking issues", Wasteland decided to upgrade just about everybody who booked the apartments to the chalets at no charge. To accommodate as many of you as possible, the SCUK crew have moved from the chalets to the apartments. There’s a location map for the three chalets and Yeti Bar here. Apartments![]() The headquarters of the SCUK France Bash 08 will be in the large La Grotte du Yeti. Be aware that on the basic package you will be staying in the building and sharing with approximately 5 other SCUKers, dependent on the rooms. Don't worry, we've been assured that the standard of accommodation is better than the apartments of Alpe d'Huez but with better atmosphere than the Les Menuires apartments. La Grotte du Yeti is located super close to the slopes and a 3 minute walk from the legendary Smithy's. Pretty good positioning if you ask me. The Résidence Bel Alp apartments are above the Yeti Bar and are apparently rather nice. ChaletsReturning this year we have the option of Chalet accommodation, which is located about five minutes walk from the Yeti. We are yet to get a floor plan of the chalets, but you'll definitely get more space for your hard-earned. If you are in a couple or fancy pimping out a bit, go for this option as most of these rooms are arranged in twins or doubles. ![]()
FlightsLook for flights going to Lyon-Grenoble for the quickest and easiest transfer. We have included flight examples going from various UK airports below, the prices are for a return flight, including taxes. These prices were correct on 31st July 2007, but remember the cost of flight prices will go up the longer you leave it to book. To save money, book your flights as soon as you can! A good resource for finding flights is: www.skyscanner.net. Look for flights to Lyon-Grenoble - 26th Jan to 2nd Feb 2008
As of today (8th Jan) there are still sub-£100 flights to be had out of Heathrow with BA and East Midlands. TransfersIt is between 1.5 and 2 hours from Grenoble Airport to the resort, and there are a number of ways to get up there. Activities When not on the snow don't imagine you'll be resting, as Deux Alpes has extra-curricular activities sewn up.They have a bowling alley, a sports centre, a cinema and a swimming pool not to mention numerous watering holes to get freaky on the dance floor and show the French how to have fun. I'd also start brushing up on your musical and general knowledge, and also testing the limits of what you'll get upto in public, in anticipation of what has become many people's highlight of the Bash... The Pub Quiz Night. ![]()
