After last year's very successful taming of the slopes of Alpe d’Huez, we are going back to France for round two… This will once again bring us into close proximity with our garlic munching cousins across the water, but will also take us to the snow-sure slopes of the largest linked ski area in the World, the fabled Trois Vallees.

We have broken down the holiday to offer the flexibility to appeal to everyone. There are a number of options to suit the holiday to your budget and taste. There is also the opportunity to hire equipment and get transfers to and from the airport.

Booking closed at midnight on Monday 8th January 2007 with a total of 92 people booked. If you need to change anything about your booking, then please contact Mike@wastelandski.com. A total of exactly 100 people will be on the Winter Bash, with six SCUK crew/hangers-on and two from Wasteland.

If there's any questions you have, info you need or people you want to meet before the big event then check out the special SCUK Bash Forum.

Room Allocations

Dunx emailed everybody on the evening of Tuesday 9th January asking what their preferences were for room allocations; some people are with groups of mates, GF/BF or family. If you haven't received that email, please email dunx@snowboardclub.co.uk letting him know your name, login and room allocations preferences. We'll try our best with room allocations and have something up here in good time for the trip.

All beds in the chalets need filling (although we are not using the sofabeds). All beds in the apartments need filling. We'll do our best with allocations, as the alternative is just to turn up and grab a room, which doesn't seem very fair on any couples, groups of mates or those turning up late. With the apartments being small, it will be tricky to please everybody. Of course, if you get there and agree to swap with somebody else, that's fine by us.

Chalet Crintallia

This sleeps 14 people in seven bedrooms. There are five bathrooms, three of which have a shower, washbasin and loo, and the other two have a bath, washbasin and loo. There is more information on this chalet here.

On The Hill

Whatever your thoughts on our stripy-jumpered European neighbours, they do have some of the most amazing snowboarding on offer, with the French Alps host to numerous terrain packed resorts. One of these is Les Menuires, which although unlikely to win any beauty contests, is still one of the most practical and functional resorts, offering some of the best value in one of the worlds finest ski areas. With terrain for all abilities, Les Menuires has 100 miles of marked runs, with 71 that most intermediates can happily cope with.

This is before even venturing out of the basic lift pass area and into the world renowned ‘Trois Vallees’. For an extra £35 pounds, you get access to the largest linked ski area in the world (including Val Thorens, Courchevel and Meribel) and enough parks, pistes and back-country to keep you entertained for an entire season. Les Menuires sits at 1,850 meters (6,084.65 ft) so is very snow sure, and the 45 lifts send over 50,000 snow fiends per hour up to the slopes. Everybody is invited along, whether you're a SCUK Member or not, so come and join us for as much fun as you can handle. We just want to see you there.

Resort

The resort is split into 3 main levels. Reberty which is the highest part and has the Leeberty nightclub, they used to show some old school cheesy snow surf videos before they open the dance floor. There's a few bars dotted around in Reberty as well.

The main resort is Croisette, which is a horseshoe passage way of shops and bars. There are a couple of night spots, On the Rocks Café, which is painfully expensive and has live music (the usual U2, police, queen e.t.c covers) and The Passport, which is the biggest club in the resort, the have different music on different nights, a typical french disco…… there's also The Sphere a first choice bar with sat tv. etc La Mousse an internet café with a pool table and more choice of beer than the rest of the alps, and a few other french bars.

The lowest part of resort (Preyerand) is the home of The Yeti, the Dutch bar which will form the basis of all our evening activities.

We have the following beer prices at the Yeti:
  1. €1.85 for a half
  2. €3.50 a pint
  3. €10 for 3 1/2 pint pitchers

Apparently it can get pretty steamy, get in!

Apartments

The headquarters of the SCUK Winter Bash II is in the large La Grotte du Yeti. Be aware that on the basic package you will be staying in the building and sharing with approximately 5 other SCUKers, dependent on the rooms. Don't worry, it's not that basic and Dunx will be getting basic with those that take this option. La Grotte du Yeti is located next to the slopes and by a pedestrian lift which takes you directly into the main Les Menuires complex with more shops and bars. These pedestrian lifts, as they ferry people around the resort, are open until 11pm.

There are now some alternative apartments we have secured for our use. These are much better than those at the Yeti and only 5 minutes from the Yeti, you can still board to the door and much closer to the chalets we also have. [See HERE]

Chalets

This year we have added the option of Chalet accommodation, which is located five minutes walk from the Yeti. The rooms are laid out in twins, with more room and luxury for your buck.

See the FLOOR LAYOUT of the 2 Chalets.

Flights

Look for flights going to Geneva for the quickest and easiest transfer. We have included flight examples (arriving in time for the SCUK Transfer) going from various UK airports below, the prices are for a return flight, including taxes. These prices were correct on 25th July 2006, but remember the cost of flight prices will go up the longer you leave it to book. To save money, book your flights as soon as you can!

Transfers

SCUK will arrange a coach transfer from Geneva for £45 return per person, that will enable everyone to travel up the hill together. This will be leaving the Airport at 4pm. It will leave resort on 7am the next Saturday to arrive at the Airport by 11am. This should enable you to pick the best flights for you if you want to get on the SCUK Coach. We have now booked two 35 seater coaches and at the time of writing (4th Jan) there are still 4 places available. Seats will be allocated on a first come - first served basis.

Activities

Following on from last year's highly successful entertainments, we have been wracking the collective SCUK brain to think of mega activities to keep you SCUKers entertained, bright eyed and bushy tailed. We will doubtlessly have another instalment of Spencer's Mastermind beating quiz and potentially some fancy dress shenanigans. New for this year, and famous in its own right, is Les Menuires luge track, an amazing course set up with berms and rollers which you can go down on with large inflatable tires. Wicked! Potential activities, depending on collective enthusiam:
  1. LUGE!!
  2. BBQ.
  3. Part 2 of Spencer's now infamous Quiz night.
  4. Pub Olympics – Teams compete at darts, pool, drinking, smoking, etc. to win a carriage clock.
  5. Coaching – Stu Brass, and any other available goodly riders.
  6. Fancy Dress Shenanigans.
  7. RFJ v JRF Boat Race.
  8. Face painting – a la Phoenix Nights.
  9. Whack the rat (Spencer remains obsessed with this).
  10. Shoe Golf.

Remember to brush up on your Dutch ;) cause its dutch week in Les Menuires whilst we are there and you'll need the lingo for keeping the Dutch ladies (okay, okay "and Dutch men") at bay.

Vixen gets signed upThese days, we all know that Travel insurance is an essential part of our holiday, but how many of us actually know that our cover is appropriate? Not all insurance cover is the same and tagconnect recognise that many travellers are now choosing more adventurous winter holidays with the emphasis on snowboarding and have therefore worked closely with SCUK for two years to design a specific winter sports policy. Our policy offers UNIQUE packages tailored to suit all snowboarders’ needs. Peace of mind, should mean, peace of mind!

Plus we provide as STANDARD cover in all policies:

  • Winters Sports cover
  • Snowboard kit: Single item limit £800, total £1,500
  • Off piste, Park, Indoor, Dryslope
  • Personal Liability
  • 31 days Winter Sports (Annual Multi Trip)
