On Saturday 26th November Hamish Duncan rolled into Chatham, for the final leg of the OnBoard Snake the Fake tour. The event coincided with Snow-Life’s Schools Tour, so local kids were given a quick display of Tim Warwood shredding it up on Dendix, only to destroy his glasses after a 40 foot 50-50 to bs 180 off ended in disaster. With all these future shredders spectating the field of competitors were stoked to get out and ride. With some of Chatham’s most challenging toys out and the Euroboys constructing a monster 8ft ramp in a matter of hours to sit in front of their travelling black sack everyone was riding with a smile on their face and just enjoying being on their boards or skis.

Once the sack had been inflated, the riders headed over, a little apprehensive of the biggest pink kicker to be seen on dryslope still with wet paint, to lay down tricks they’d never dream of trying otherwise. Ben Knox, a Bracknell regular , set the benchmark, attempting a double backflip on his first run. Mike Wakefield was soon behind on his skis, blitzing towards the ramp switch and hitting an inverted nine that left the rest of us open-mouthed.
Dave “Darkness” Carter was going balls out on the airbag, along with local instructor Mark Surrey, whom got back flips down on his local slope for the first time since one caused him to lose his collar bone over a year ago

The riders soon moved onto the other obstacles on the hill. Local ripper Cody Hierons, who has recently joined the McNab team, was consistently sticking smooth boardslides on the rocket rail with a drop off bigger than him, front sides on the massive flat down kink rail and combo presses on everything else on the hill. Callum Wilkins was riding super clean all day and slaying the 40ft box with clean 270s on, and had started to step up his riding as the night progressed with huge bs 5 tails.

Other standout riding came from Dave “Spring” Moore who was pulling some massive 180s off the main kicker, along with Old Man Chris Woods, a dry slope veteran, just going massive off every ramp, and hitting every rail with no care for speed. A large contingent of riders from Bromley also showed up to go head to head with Chatham, Vince was getting some huge bs shifties, and Emily Spicer was giving Becca Richardson a run for her money, until Emily fell off the rocket rail, luckily unhurt, but shaken.

A battle ensued between Ben and Sunny to see who could spin the furthest. Rotating onto and off of the box with a few spins whilst they were on it thrown in for good measure. Sunny’s switch 270s on 270 off were so smooth. However, Ben was matching these with 540s along the box, 270 out.

On the kickers Sunny threw down the gauntlet with grabbed cab 5s off Chatham’s huge floater, but Ben responded with bs 7s off the smaller kicker.
The judges gave the crown to Sunny in the end, who walked away with an X-Box, Icon snowboard and other goodies. Callum was crowned second place for his clean consistent runs, and Ben Knox came in third, but not bad as he doesn’t normally ride Dendix.

Becca Richardson was hitting everything on the slope showing the girls can easily hold their own against the guys and walked away as the best woman of the day.

The after party to wave goodbye to one of Chatham’s regulars, Tim Greenaway who’s off to Whistler for the season was a great end to a great day of chilled out, fun riding. A big thank you to the Whattlers for the after party as well as to Onboard magazine, TSA, Nixon and the Euroboys for making the event happen.
