Our fearless leader - Image Copyright Steve McKenna 2006The Summer Bash is blowing out six candles on its cake this year and it’s basically all about meeting up with a load of snowboarders in a field in outer Tamworth for some sun, snowboarding and sangria (well, beer) based shenanigans. It’ll be a full on, rip-roaring ride ticking off the major ABC’s of Activities, Beer and Camping.

Everybody is invited along, whether you are a SCUK member or not, so bring along your Granny and see if she can handplant on top of the quarter. Just come and join us for as much fun as you can handle.

Keep an eye on the weather as the weekend approaches. Current forecast is for a scorching weekend in Tamworth!

The Plan

The full weekend will go something like this:
  • Get to the campsite Friday evening for the start of the drinking then fiddle with tent poles and pegs in the dark.

  • All day music, BBQ, beers and games at the campsite.

  • 5 a side Footy is on the cards again.

  • We’ll also be trying to organise a volleyball competition. Get practising your spikes.

  • Weather permitting, one of the TSA Staff will be giving a board servicing demo.

  • Adrenalin Tubing 7.45 to 8.45pm at the SnowDome.

  • Boarding 10pm to 1.30am at the SnowDome.

  • Late bar to 1.00am.

  • Back to the campsite.

  • Sunday morning. Rise from the hottest tents in the world with a huge craving for water.

  • Sunday, the brave few can check out Epic skatepark in Moseley, Birmingham.

If you're coming, feel free to add your name to the "Who's in?" list in the forum.

You can read all about the previous Summer Bashes 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003 and 2002.

Booking

You book and pay for everything separately, so you can join in as much as you want or just come along and watch. Why not bring the kids or hire some for the day? You can pre-book everything via the Tamworth Snowdome - adrenalin tubing and snowboarding. SCUK Members must pre-book to get the special discounts on the adrenalin tubing and snowboarding. You can therefore book the whole lot by phoning the Tamworth SnowDome directly on 08705 000011 and quoting "Summer Bash".

Just for SCUK Members

SCUK Members are naturally special, so when you do book for the snowboarding at Tamworth SnowDome in advance, you should provide your SCUK membership number to the SnowDome, as one lucky SCUK member is going to get a week at Dragon Lodge! Of course it's never too late to Join SCUK as you'll save £13 on booking your slope time anyway!

  • A one week stay at Dragon Lodge in Tignes; any available week you want from October 2007 to May 2008.
  • Half board - i.e. B&B plus 6 evening meals with wine.
  • Return airport transfer.
  • Use of any Option test centre boards.
  • Dragon Lodge merchandise - T, Sweat and beanie.
  • But not flights, insurance or lift pass.

You will need your SCUK membership card to claim the prize on the night.

Camping

We're camping somewhere new this year. The location is just next to Tamworth, at Priory Park and we'll be based here for the majority of Saturday, so just come to the field when you arrive unless you plan on meeting up at the SnowDome in the evening. We'll have a BBQ going, so bring some drink and food, sun cream and more drink.

In an effort to save tents and stop locals joining what they think is a ‘Wicker-man’ style sacrifice, there will be no bonfires allowed, but we will be bringing one of those compost/brazier things and a supply of flammable stuff to let us have a small fire to sing kumbaya around. Marshmallows are optional but expected ;)

Image Copyright Sam Hart 2007For your audible delight over the weekend we have secured the services of the one and only Tony B. Tony is one of the finest and certainly most dedicated DJs in the UK who many of you will know from previous Snowboard Club events, AIM Series’ and BRITS.

There are no actual camping facilities at the farm, so we'll be supplying a toilet for us to use. We're talking basic okay – a chance to get to know the ‘Swampy’ inside ourselves. Girls, maybe leave the straighteners at home ;)

Cost: £10 per person for the weekend. We'll collect cash only over the weekend.

Alternatively, lightweights can seek comfort at the Travel Inn across the road from the SnowDome, but you will be jeered, sneered and leered at by the hardcore campers who are having heaps more fun!

Adrenalin Tubing - Image Copyright Steve McKenna 2006

Adrenalin Tubing

I know snowboarders are supposed to be steezy, and smile less than Grotbags at a funeral, but not us SCUK members. Launch yourself down the slope on a huge tyre before they set the slope up for us. There are two sessions available: Saturday night 7.45 to 8.15pm and 8.15 to 8.45pm. The time to beat from top to bottom is apparently 7.43 seconds. Get eating those pies to increase your momentum.

Cost: £5 pre booked SCUK members or £8 otherwise.
There is space for 25 people per session and it's first-come, first-served.

Snowboarding

Of course, we'll be snowboarding and thanks to the SnowDome, this will be a special Fresh session on Saturday night from 10pm to 1.30am. Ramps, quarter pipe, rails and snow. DJ and late bar till 1.00am. We'll have the Vermin crew laying out the slope for us, so expect a great range of toys for all levels, and we’ll be hosting impromptu comps like the longest ollie and highest air out of the quarter pipe. All this will be resided over by our MC for the night – Tim Sandy.

Cost: SCUK members that pre-book will get SnowDome member's rates - so £15 for adults. Everybody else rides at normal rates - so £28 for adults.

Skateboarding

Epic Skatepark in Moseley, Birmingham, boasts a serious park. Although not really part of the Summer Bash, feel free to check that out on Sunday.

Cost: Check out the Epic Skate Parks website for prices and other details.

Getting There

The camping is about 10 minutes away from the SnowDome and the link for directions is here. The address is Priory Park, Robeys Lane, Alvecote, Tamworth, Staffordshire, B78 1AR.

Road access to Tamworth SnowDome is a doddle off the M42 and the link for directions is here to see the SnowDome as the "Leisure Centre". You can also see the train station on the map.

Epic Skatepark is in Moseley, about 20 miles from Tamworth and the link for directions is here.

If you're after a lift, check out the No Mates Forum. People are coming from all over the country and we'll be extending the invite to members of the three other snowboarding forums in the UK at Adrenalin Trip, Gone Boarding and Powderroom, so you should be able to grab a lift from somebody.

Small Print...

Remember the Tamworth Snowdome has a minimum recreational standard - this basically means you can link turns, control your speed and you're not a danger to others.

Don't forget, SCUK will also be organising another Winter Bash in Les Deux Alpes, France in January 2008.

Here's the SnowDome layout for the event...

The SCUK Summer Bash 07 event page can be administered by dunx (Dunx), stu (Stu Brass), spencer (Spencer Claridge) and office (Office).
