![]() Refrigerator Open
Jam style event in the halfpipe with all proceeds going to the spinal injuries charity "Back-Up".
[By Si Lowson] This year’s event was with no doubt the best we’ve seen. With the number of riders and spectators increasing every year the Refrigerator Open is now the biggest free-ski event of the year. It was great to see kids of 11yrs old joining in with the some of the best skiers in Europe. Before the event I was worrying about the half pipe but I have to say that Gav, Adrian and their team from snozone worked really hard into the night to make it work, so a big thanks to the guys. On the night the riders were ripping up the half pipe and making the rails look easy; with the likes of Mike Wakefield, Andy Bennett, Ted Foster, Andy Topping and Mark Watson out there things were sure to kick off. Come half eight all the guys were getting used to the slope and were really starting to push themselves, Mike was upside down, Ted was 10 foot in the air and Mark popping 270’s off the rails. And if that’s not enough Jim Adlington was going mental on the mike pushing everyone to go bigger and better providing a great atmosphere on the slope. Dan was on the decks, I was struggling to stand and sound control provided the sound system all this adding to what was a great night. Here are some comments from the guys. Stevo, I got hammered and wet my pants and the next morning woke up next to AJ! What a night!! I can’t wait till the next one, may be I will join in as well. Ali, Was so wasted and woke up the next morning to the biggest cat poo on his pillow but after a few trips the toilet he managed to clean it up good effort!! Zack Ragg, It was a good vibe among the guys. Everyone seemed to have fun and enjoy themselves. I had a blast. Stue from OZ, Didn’t know what they were on about, but had a bloody good time in the bar watching these drongo’s bounce their bodies off the edge of a perfectely good wall. There was, wicked tunes, excellent crack and I came away with a bloody nice jacket! Thanks. Mark Watson, A good time was had by all and I would recommend that any UK rider should seriously consider going to the next one. It provides publicity for both sponsored and those who are looking for sponsers (nice one Ted!), with a really good vibe and atmosphere serves a chilled event with a side order of Style and fun! Its Andy Topping, here is a bit of a write up on the comp on Saturday. The most unique British skiing experience yet. A well made half pipe built from snow never seemed possible until now. The night was filled with talent from all around the UK with every skier pushing themselves more than ever. The music was great, the skiing was even better and personalities were bouncing off one another. It was a night to a make anyone feel proud of being part of the UK ski scene. The organization was brill and it couldn't of gone ahead without the support of a fantastic sponsors. Thanks to Si and everyone else who helped to make it a superb evening. Thanks to all the sponsors Ellis Brigham, Salomon, Xscape, Fall-Line, Head, Atomic, Suunto, Vans, Billabong, Smith, Bloc, Dakine, Dark Summer, Dainese, WE, Dragons Health Club, Big Bear Sports, Nixon and North Face.
