AIMING HIGH FOR RAIL STORM!

London will be treated to one of the biggest free snowboarding events the capital has ever seen, when Red Bull Rail Storm hits Trafalgar Square on Sunday 20th November - bringing 36 snowboarders, some 8,000 spectators and real snow to the capital.

This urban snowboarding rail contest will see 33 pro and three amateur snowboarders from over 10 countries compete in teams (by country), for a slice of the £30,000 prize purse and glory of first place!

Each team will consist of three ‘pro’ riders, in addition to a UK rookie team, selected through the Orange AIM Series ‘Red Bull Jibber of the Day’ events. Amongst the successful riders chosen from the cream of British snowboarding talent include; Ben McHugh (Milton Keynes winner), Stu Edwards (Castleford winner) and Sam Cullum (Warmwell winner).

Additionally, and for the very first time, an ‘All Star’ girl team including Cheryl Mass from the Netherlands. The format is an international team knockout competition which will see all the countries competing in an event with an electric atmosphere and exciting judging format.

The specially designed course, which includes a giant staircase, three rails and curved boxes, is set to challenge the riders - as this particular discipline of boarding requires extreme technical skill, precision and control.

Red Bull is working with The Mayor of London, Oakley, VANS, Snowboard Club UK, XFM and Method Magazine to bring this exclusive free event to London.

RAIL STORM BREWING FOR WINTER

[Official Release 20th Sept 05)
- Red Bull Rail Storm, London - 20th November 2005 -

It’s back, it’s bigger than ever, and this time, it’s coming to London’s Trafalgar Square, on 20th November. Red Bull Rail Storm is an urban snowboarding rail contest, bringing 36 snowboarders, some 8,000 spectators and real snow to the capital for this awesome free ticketed event!

Building on its successful debut in Scotland last year, Red Bull Rail Storm will see 33 of the world’s best and three amateur rail riders, as they take on the urban terrain, including a giant staircase, three rails and curved boxes – in a battle for first place and a share of the £30,000 prize purse!

With the UK being piped to first place by the Swiss last year, will the Brits be able to bring home the title this year - will the Americans be back with a vengeance with their all new team, or will the all star girl team give the men a run for their money?! To find out you’ve got to be there – you can apply for tickets online at www.redbullrailstorm.co.uk from 1st November (available until 13th).

Each team will consist of three ‘pro’ riders, in addition to a UK rookie team (selected through the Orange AIM Series) and for the very first time, an ‘All Star’ girl team including Cheryl Mass from the Netherlands.

Amongst competing riders, spectators can look forward to some epic riding from; Mattieu Crepel (FRA), Ton-Ton Holland (SUI), Heikki Sorsa (FIN), Hannes Metzler (AUT), Eddie Wall (USA) and representing the UK, will be Scott McMorris, Tyler Chorlton and James Thorne.

Meanwhile, places for the UK Rookie team have been hotly contested at the Orange AIM Series ‘Red Bull Jibber of the Day’ events. Ben Mchugh took the first spot at Milton Keynes, whilst James Thorne secured his place in Castleford, with runner up Stu Edwards stepping up to represent the UK Rookies. Expect the final qualifier, at Warmwell on 1st October,t to attract the cream of British snowboarding talent, as riders battle for the final place to represent their country.

Bringing an international flavour of talent to London, over 10 countries will be represented in this event, including: UK, USA, Austria, Finland, France Germany, Holland, Iceland, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Commenting on his win last year, Swiss Captain ‘Ton Ton’ Holland said: “The event was fantastic, lots of surprises and first class riding - we were very honored to have won.”

Rail riding is a particular discipline of snowboarding that requires extreme technical skill, precision and control as boarders negotiate steel rails and other unique objects.

Red Bull is working with The Mayor of London, Oakley, Snowboard Club UK and Method Magazine to bring this exclusive free event to London.
